No you don't have to provide evidence of your age when you apply for jobs. Most companies no longer ask for date of birth to avoid age discrimination.

To get around filters usually but you can only do it once so it tends to backfire. |

That's not true in my experience. I was always asked my age or date of birth outright or with alternative questions like "when did you qualify" . I refused to tell one HR director my date of birth and she said " It's ok I will get it off your credentials" ( passport ). |

Employers can only ask date of birth if you must be a certain age to do the job e.g. over 18 to sell alcohol. It can be asked on an equality monitoring form but nobody involved in the selection process can see it. Obviously if like me you took your O levels in 1972 it's going to be obvious. |
