Hi All,

I'm currently taking medication for me diabetes which causes really bad thrush. Even getting aroused hurts. It was causing cracking and bleeding. Thankfully after trying three different tablets they've put me back on the injections for it.

Has anyone else, male wise, have this happen to them?

Have they given you medication/cream to treat thrush? Being diabetic can make you more prone to thrush anyway especially if blood sugars aren't controlled. I'm sure you already know this but don't use any scented soaps/shower gel/bubble bath to wash with.

Hopefully some men will be along with advice for you.

bad thrush with a diabetic is usually caused by high blood sugar levels. or when the levels are not being well controlled.

higher sugar levels often lead to thrush. the treatment for which are anti fugal creams such as canesten.

Whilst not a cure, taking good quality probiotics can help maintain a balance, including on the skin believe it or not. As others have explained, an excess of sugar which ultimately manifests in your skin too, and will provide a food source for fungal infection. You might also want to research whether applying topical probiotics might help, for example people used to apply live yoghurt to affected areas. If you haven’t already, you should be referred to a dermatologist. Ultimately though it is down to blood sugar level management.

I’ve thrust before (male) but usual treatments work but if they aren’t working for you speak to your GP.

Thanks for your message. Yeah the gave me Canesten HC cream. Weirdly though, I couldn't buy the normal one over the counter because I'm not female. How bonkers is that?

I've cut all sugars out and I still have high blood sugars because I'm not that mobile due to a disability. It's like I'm fighting a losing battle.

That's the last one they put me on. I hope it clears up really soon for you and I feel your pain

Thankfully mine has cleared up and I'm back on the Trulicity injections. Hopefully I've seen the last of it.

Do you have a diabetic specialist nurse or GP at your surgery , as might be worth another chat to see if your actual diabetic meds need reviewing. Like others have said, recurrent Thrush is often a sign of high blood sugars. Or even asked to be referred to your local Community Diabetic Clinic as they do specialise in it and can help a lot.

Might sound strange but go to your local sexual health clinic. They’re good with recurrent thrush too
