Maspalomas dunes etiquette
Jump to: Newest in thread
We're (couple) travelling to PDI & Maspalomas in March for our 1st ever visit.
Can someone advise us on the etiquette of visiting the dunes please? We want to stay safe, not be overrun, but have a little fun.
Also advice re any local bars that are good for the swinging scene, or just good! Thanks all.x

We will be interested in the replies!
We started going to the Maspalomas dunes about 20 years ago. We had a great time. We didn’t swap or allow anyone to have sex with Ann, but we loved being watched as we made love in the secluded areas.
We went last year and our favourite secluded places seemed to be barriered off to ‘preserve’ the dunes.
We stayed near Meloneras so approached the dunes from that end via the camels, not PDI. |

We've made a few visits to the Dunes in the past couple of years. There's quite a lot to say!
First up is that public sex is technically and actually illegal so you need to be watchful for police patrols. Luckily we were told by a local guy(and this fits with our own observations) that they only patrol in the morning so if you stick to after 2pm for your visits you should be ok.
Secondly you need to pick your spot. In the past lots of people went into the cordonned off area that is a nature reserve but you will get fined if you are caught in there now. Ditto the comments about police patrols. The area of dunes behind the gay kiosks is all male gay activity so you will prob want to avoid that. We have tended to pick a location either at the base of a dune or in front of one of the clumps of bushes so you can easily see who is approaching and aren't likely to get anyone creeping up from behind.
We never found the number of single guys was overwhelming - maybe every few minutes someone would walk by and maybe watch from a distance. We found everyone was polite and if asked to back off or if we waved them away they always cooperated. It's not remotely like the swingers beach at Cap d'Agde if you are familiar with that |

We haven't been this winter, but last year there were two sorts of "roped off". The main paths had more widely spaced posts just to guide people, while the nature reserve had more closely spaced posts with lots of signs (often unreadable...).
It sounds like the new fines only apply to the nature reserve part, but some people are confused and think it applies to all roped off areas? |

We popped into the dunes behind kiosk 7 in December hoping for a little fun and some new pictures.
It was disgusting and stank.
Full of human excrement, tissues and used condoms.
The PDI end I think it was kiosk 3? Was much cleaner. |

Kiosk 3 is one we'll look out for then thank you. Did you encounter any of the issues other people have mentioned re the local police issuing fines?xx |

We didn’t see any police or wardens but didn’t go back in the dunes till mid afternoon.
The PDI end seemed more “open”.
You should be finitely check out the CITA centre.
Lots of swinger bars, clubs and a sexy cinema.
In amongst the shops. Quite bizarre. |

Basement of the Cita is certainly fun after dark lol
Peaches and cream was a really nice club just outside Cita too. Route 69 further up looked great too but we didn’t get a chance to check it out properly. |
