Start gently.
Even a gentle crack from a crop will hurt and mark. Unless he is trying to mark you, warm the skin with hand spanking first. As far as paddles are concerned, the softer the facing material, the less bite they will have. The heavier the paddle, the thuddier each hit will be.
So a thin suede paddle or slapper would be very gentle where as an ebony paddle with a ridged face would sting and burn.
