There's a website centred around the fetish lifestyle that'll tell you where to find local events to learn more rope stuff, and once you get to grips with the site you'll be able to find plenty of people with tutorials and guides on how to do it safely and well.
Quick look on there says there's a few rope centric events the middle of next month in your area |

Be aware that a lot of the peer rope sessions (face to face) rely on attendees being vouched for in some way.
Around my way you need either the organisers to have met you at a local munch (a social meet up) or have someone they know vouch for you.
So it is probably good to try and get along to a local munch (these can also be found on FetLife). They will be at a local pub or club and typically run once a month. Vanilla dress code, no play. |

Edinburgh has a peer rope group and is home to two of my UK rope heroes. As said earlier in person tuition is always best.
However, here is a note I post from time to time.
An updated version of something I have posted a few times.
As a general rule it is best to learn from someone who is experienced. Understanding tension is important and the purpose of ties can be critical. Therefore, check if there is a peer rope near you.
If you don't want to leave the house.
Books
Most have a sections on safety and choice or rope.
Two of those books were written by the Knotty Boys,. One is "Showing You The Ropes". The books are not my thing but people like them and are worth checkling if you like pretty rope. Unfortunately YouTube has removed most of their videos.
Although I am into Japanese style rope, rope is about fun and can be about sexy times. To that end I like Chantra Rose's "Bondage for Sex. You can find her in action online on porn sites in her domination of women videos "Chanta's Bitches"( not for the fainthearted).
Other books I would mention are:
Lee Harrington's "Shibari You Can Use" and "More Shibsri you can use"
Midori's "The Seductive Art Japanese Bondage"
Lord Morpheus' "Bondage Basics'
Pete Riggs *Rope Bondage The Smart Way"
Jay Wiseman "Basic Rope Bondage"
Essence of Shibari by Shin Nawakiri is worth a look.
If tying men is your thing I would recommend
,Stephen Niederwieser's "Tie Me Up!
For rope bottoms:
Evie Vanes "Better Bondage Every Body"
Clover's guide for rope bottoms and rope models
If you want a good holistic book in bondage and D/S and don't mind a long read, Mistress Couple's "Ultimate Guide to Bondage" would be worth a look.
If self suspension is your thing Shay Toxiano's "Tying & Flying"
If you want videos the makers of rope deGiotta, and also Twisted Monk used to separately have videos on Vimeo and YouTube as is Rory's Brainworks, Watts the Safe Word . Also recommended on Youtube is ChristianRed's Bondage Tuition. There is also The Duchy.
Crash Restraint has a good syllabus but a number of the links are dead.
I recommend The Rope Podcast.
In addition to the previous post: Esinem has online tutorials. as has Anatomie has videos, as has bondagetuition on YouTube.Ebi Mcknotty rope 365 is worth looking up.
Many recommend Shibari Study which is a paid resource online which I have since joined and it is good. Another online resource is Shibari Acadamy.
"Miumi-U Teaches Japanese Shibari"
is a recommended book.
Other books are "Shibari" by Phillippe Boxis which is in French and English.
As is the Shibaku books 1 and 2 by Peter Wettstein, the third is not translated.
"Osez le Bondage is a pocket book by Axterdam with French and English Editions.
For German speakers Matthias Grimm has his Japanese Bondage.
There are Douglas Kent's books, but because they are out of print they are becoming stupidly expensive, and they are old school.
"Bondage' David La Greca It has a good philosophical side
If philosophy is your thing "Discovering Kinbaku' Zetsu Nawa is worth a look as is "Pdychology of BDSM & Rope Bondage" by Sin.
If history is your thing the podcast and associated material of the Kinbakunomicon by Faviola is excellent. As is the "The Beauty of Kinbaku" by Master K.
There is a documentary based in London starting at the Flying Dutchman (another site lost to us) filmed 2010 to 2014 by Bob Bentley (although now dated the scene has changes hugely) " The Pleasure of Rope' clips on YouTube.
For a different take on the history of shibari you can search for Midori's online commentary "
The History & Myths of Japanese Bondage"
Please support providers and also teachers of kink, especially rope.
Rope done badly can cause serious harm.

Everything Zensual says is absolutely spot on, including the book recommendations. Edinburgh and Glasgow have an AMAZING rope scene, including introductory sessions, and it would absolutely be worth getting yourself along to one of their sessions or a peer rope group. |
