Generally means that they work in a qualified and regulated profession, like nurse or solicitor that they have had to do significant training for. The regulation part is important as it often sets standards of behaviour that must be adhered to.
Generally when people put professional in their profile it means that they want a certain level of discretion in the lifestyle. It would be difficult for a local police officer to have the respect of their local community if everyone knew they were into cock and ball torture!!
It's not necessarily right but society doesn't always align with sex positivity |

Yep! I am a City professional. Square mile, buy/sell, that kind of thing. I like having play friends with similar lifestyles and who are in similar geographies. I occasionally play with ppl in tech or medicine. But I don't generally get on with lawyers. So, I'd say "numerate City professional" both as a description and a preference for me. |

"I think the above is an excellent explanation.
A lot of people get very irate when it's used in a profile though."
Which is one of the reasons I use it to be honest - helps filter out the kind of person who it would put off |

It does seem to get some people riled up
I think it can mean diff things to diff people. For example some it may they have a professional qualification ,others that they wear a suit and earn a good wage.
It doesn't bother me ,but if that's the only thing on a profile they probably wouldn't be for me. |

If someone writes professional in their profile then we won't clique because I'm a people person not what their job or salary is, if I was in a club environment I won't be asking if you're in a professional job, I'm sure there are more interesting topics to talk about than work.
Am I professional or not, you'll never know |
