Just wondering what the term "Gym Fit" actually means, and how others look at it?
I would consider myself gym fit with the size of me and the numbers I lift, but interested in what others opinions are.... |

"If it’s used to describe someone’s appearance I usually think of someone lean with visible muscles.
I go to the gym, lift heavy, but I’m fat. I wouldn’t describe myself as gym fit. "
I wouldn't say you are fat or any where near fat! |

For men, I'd typically view a guy who is lean and shows toned muscles over his whole body, legs, core, upper body and arms, that are likely not just natural results from anything other than gym or bodyweight exercising, alongside a sustained carefully managed dietary intake. I like the looks of them. And I appreciate their dedication |

For me gym fit is shredded
However, and I have this discussion with other gym goes. How many can do a 5km in sub 30 or run a sub 1hr 10km - yes may be shredded but fitness / stamina wise awful.
At moment I am neither shredded nor in a fitness level that I can run that. I was at a position when I could run a sub 28 5km and a 10km at 1hr 4 mins, I was still overweight and Chunky. However due to injury, I hopefully getting gym fit
Will I ever be shredded no. Will I ever be fit most likely yes. Being lean and muscular doesn’t mean your fitness and have stamina

Shredded. I work out regularly at a gym, go swimming, and dance, and would say I was toned but not shredded.

Gym fit, in my opinion, means if you looked at the person in underwear, you can visibly tell that they train.
What a person lifts is irrelevant, you have to look like you regularly lift.
With that said, there are plenty of members in my gym that do not resemble someone that has ever trained, these people to me, are not gym fit, they simply attend a gym at this point. |

Gym fit - what makes a person gym fit - or suitable to go to the gym
I'm overweight but I can deadlift 120kg, squat 50kg. Can I run nope if my life depended on it I'd give it a go.
But what's gym fit to me might not be gym fit to someone else.
"Fit" again is this cardio or weight based? I have friends who are quite slim but have no strength and there cardio fitness is pants.
Personally for me been fit and healthy in both body and mind is my goal and im working towards that and a 120kg deadlift lol |

This is the stuff I want to know, as to me, if some says "Gym Fit" they are describing ability, where as if someone describes "athletic" that is someone with abs etc showing.
Keep chasing that 120kg and keep me updated on it!!!! |

Weight is no indication on someone being gym for I'm afraid, a 100kg person would be obese at 5ft 2. Could be in very good shape at 6ft 2 or quite normal at 6ft 6
Too many variables to go on weight |

Not all that North of North London |
To me, a gym fit body is very much a Love Island type body. I say that as a compliment, someone that works hard but works to look good rather than a more specific fitness goal or target. I'd also associate it with a level of grooming.
As I say, that is said as a compliment, it's not a criticism. I'd argue athletic is a far vaguer and broader term |

I train with a girl at my gym, she’s a BBW but I’d class her as gym fit!!
She regularly lifts more than me and at one session did 300kg on calf’s alone!!
I’d class myself these days as gym fit, don’t have the six pack or any visible abs but starting to get body toned in legs, shoulders, back and arms |

Totally agree. Look at powerlifters compared to bodybuilders. Strength doesn't always equate to ”looking fit”. They might be stronger than bodybuilders but their shapes are totally different.
Fitness is sometimes based on our own perception. I've seen guys on here say they are built like rugby players but look nothing like a professional rugby player that has solid muscle and nothing wobbles.
On the other hand some say they are fit and they may well be because they visit the gym are fully active or do a physically demanding job but look average. So sometimes its about our own definition and what we see as being fit. |

Gym fit look is a style Physically strong is very different
Eddie hall is a beast of a man with immense strength / work dedication but looks nothing like the gym fit muscular defined guys / girls you see all over the gram / tube doing fitness stuff / work out stuff. That’s not his bag as he is about pure lifting power .
Obviously we all know a vast number are juicing to get that ripped so fast and vasc but that’s down to them if they like that look vibe.
For me I view gym fit as solid stomachs / abs / full muscular definition and larger than average muscle sizes based around general people in their weight height class
Ultimately be proud if you are going to gym regardless if you are lean / heavy / ripped / bulking / shredded. If you are working out weekly then good on you and be proud you are trying to look after yourself ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I think in this context ‘gym fit’ is a look, not an ability. I’d be similar in the gym as your friend, but to look at me I just look like a fat, middle aged woman. No way would anyone say I look ‘gym fit’, but ability wise I can do plenty.

They are "pharmacy fit" tbh.
Gym fit is someone with muscles and a low body fat percentage. Doesn't mean they can lift a lot or have good stamina but likely they have both if they are in that shape.
Prob adds to the fantasy of what type of males people are looking for. When I see "gym fit" on here I cringe inside |

The phrase is used as a less contentious way of saying "no chubby or plain people". .
As people have said above it is look rather than a requirement that people go to a gym. Another way of saying it would be "You must be a member of Le Boudoir" ![](/icons/s/2/halo.gif) |

Mr ink and the sea would fit into the bracket of looking “gym fit “ …. As well as actually being physically fit .
I train ALOT 6-7 days of CrossFit and 2-3 days a week olympic lifting …. But I’ve also had children so aesthetically I wouldn’t be classed as gym fit but I know that I am in the bracket of higher than average fitness .

It's to generic a statement
Fitness is relative to the activity.
Lots of guys in the gym could easily train someone into the ground but don't have abs showing.
Others can run for hours but look like starved refugees.
You can be gym fit as in muscled strong but not lean.
Also very heavy and strong as an oxe but chubby and still fit.
You can be lean with abs but weak and have no stamina.
Hence it's too generic for me |

I would say gym fit would be slim with toned and visible muscles rather than a powerlifter type physique.
It is a bit of a vague term though.
Certainly wouldn’t consider myself gym fit. I am reasonably strong compared to the average person but not lean enough to look all shredded.
I don’t really care though, I mainly work out to keep myself healthy rather than so I can wank off in the mirror or boast about how many KG I can lift in one go. |

But in the world of online dating, tinder and swinging / fab "gym fit is a look" and not indicative of ones abilities in the gym.
I'm a black belt so very flexible/ powerful and fit in terms of a range abilities but I have an average body / dad body.
Shag is what would be considered gym fit as it's based on the look of his body profile and pyhsic.
Someone Describing themselves and gym fit when they have a big fat based belly for example is going to lead to confusion or disappointment. It's much better to go with dad body but fit with excellent strength stamina or for the strong stocky types they often use the term rugby player style physic.
Always best to advertise yourself correctly when use standard internet terms.

I am gym fit but would be a rugby type build ie not fat but muscular and chunky.

It’s all about context surely ?
On a swinging site - gym fit = aesthetically pleasing physique of an athletic nature.
Nothing more. No one is going to care how much you can bench press, how many muscle ups you can do or how quickly you can run 5 Km. |

"It’s all about context surely ?
On a swinging site - gym fit = aesthetically pleasing physique of an athletic nature.
Nothing more. No one is going to care how much you can bench press, how many muscle ups you can do or how quickly you can run 5 Km. "
Couldn't have said it better myself! |

Huge amount of pretence with gym goers in my experience, especially in the weights dept .. popping blood vessels in your head lifting a heavy weight once means fuck all fitness imo. I steer clear of using gym terminology on my profile as it just portrays pretentiousness. Most of my gym going pals wouldn't last a day doing the work I do, but I don't shout about it on my profile. |

I agreed the term is more associated with the aesthetic look as opposed to physicality of working out. |

Oh dear. Well I shout about it because at my age I am very proud of my fitness. My ability to work out in the gym. The time I can walk. Not shouting about just proud to be Gym fit and very healthy |
