As far as I know most dongles are GSM enabled which means they will work in other countries, but there may be a "roaming" charge which makes it fairly expensive, I'm sure that any of the mobile phone shops will be able to tell you the most economic way of achieving the service that you want, the network provider for the dongle may also need to be informed.

I agree with NDP, roaming data is very very expensive, you may be better getting something over there.

Also, you may find that the network you choose to buy from over here may not use all of Indias telco providers as partners, so much easier to get one over there.

because as i am going to be away for xmas and new year i thought my laptop would come in handy to keep in touch via webcam with my family and friends as opposed to spending half my holiday on the blinking phone...that is the reason.

Will the hotels you are staying in have Wi Fi? Worth checking that out as you will have a much faster connection for a way smaller price.

You seriously need to make sure the hotel in Goa has a 'Business Class' safe in the room that will take your laptop.

Because of the lack of 'Business Class' safes in many countries we always take a notebook sized computer if we travel abroad. Our hotel we go to regularly in Sharm El Sheikh has these new larger room safes but many don't.

Beware of taking your dongle abroad as the data charges are massive. read the story below.

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/broadband-and-phones/article.html?in_article_id=445603&in_page_id=182

Or google "Man gets a £31,500 bill for TV show on laptop"

A friend of mine went on holiday and took his dongle. All he did was a bit of browsing, MSN and email. He got a bill for £250 when he got back.

Gotta agree with you there m8. When I go on holiday the last thing that I'm interested in is a laptop or anything remotely associated with the internet

Most dongles are not set up for roaming and when you ask they will tell you that they will not do it for you you may be better off buying one when your there as it will definately work out to be the cheaper option in the long run the same goes with mobiles when I go abroad i get my hands on a local pay and go sim and use that it works and saves a fortune in roaming charges xx

I got charged quite a lot of money as roaming in a different country instead of mobile broadband when I was in HK!

In the end, I stopped using it and used unsecured WiFi network instead for browsing on here!

I'm surprised you didn't to start with...

In Kowloon we searched and found over 100 in one hit lol.. the tower blocks are full of them eh lol..

It seems they don't care who uses what where lol...

As most people have said, don't use a UK dongle abroad. Dongles are basically mobile phones with no calls, so run the same as using your mobile abroad, i.e very pricey!

Buy or use WiFi
