It's a beautiful location, miles of gorgeous beach, and people from all over the world - not many Americans though, as you'd expect. Many of the hotels and holiday packages offer fully inclusive deals, incl drinks, which can help bring people together. The locals are largely desperately poor, though resort work brings in lots of tips for them.
Sex/swinging can be found, and there are one or two bars/clubs outside of the hotels, but it's not a huge city, compared to Havana etc, seemingly more like a very small town, despite the huge volume of tourists. Don't expect to have much organised swinging, merely making your own fun happen, as and where you get along with others - similar chances to any resort area in the world. Don't mean to sound negative, as you'll love your holiday, and we had some great times there.
