Chain hotels generally don't care who's going in and out so long as they have a key card for the lifts (if needed) and there's no noise complaints. They probably won't even notice the guest is not the person you checked in with if it's been a couple of hours since check in |

all the hotels will have seen every trick in the book,, as long as you have paid your bill and do not trash the place they will not be bothered,,, and dont want to cause bad memories of your stay coz they will lose out on return customers,,, |

Holiday Inn no problem
Neither are village inns on fact any hotel where you don't need your key card to get through a door to enter corridors to rooms
Hotels don't really care as long as bills are paid |

Our usual playground is a chain hotel. In our experience they really don't care.
Just for info, whilst booked on a family occassion once my younger brother arrived from overeas to surprise the family. Being in with the 'secret' I let him change in our hotel room, in case his wife had been in his. Hopefully that makes sense?
Anyway, the hotel staff realised we had a third person in our room and came knocking at the door quoting 'fire regulations' at me.
When questioned they could not tell me what fire regulations I had breached.
As a firefighter for 29 years and a registered fire risk assessor, I can tell you that it's smoke and mirrors. The only reason they need to know is to be able to report how many people were in the building when the fire broke out, but as most hotels allow people to walk in from the street for a drink or a meal it's completely irrelevant. |

As a hotel manager with over 40 years experience, there are variations on what you have described, especially with the emergence of Covid.
That is, local Councils can now insert their own rules with regards to room occupancy and for hotel owners or management having to know how many people are in the building, especially in bedrooms.
In my 25+ years of expertise within Night Management, I was very Security conscious, and did on occasion turn away "extra" guests attempting to access hotel bedroom areas.
Hotels are far more security aware these days, especially in city centre locations.
TIP. At checking-in, ask for 2 key cards. Keep one for yourselves and give the other to your third person. That can allow access.
As for lift access keys, not every Holiday Inn or other chain group has this requirement, even if they do have lifts on site. It's more common for lift keys, if local Police advice is to supply such access keys to lifts,,as part of the hotel's security brief. |

Nobody will know or care, as long as there are no complaints you will be fine, it's your room and your space, the only thing the hotel will be concerned about is numbers in the building for fire reporting, however, they don't care about the numbers in the bar or restaurant  |

They do set their lifts to be accessible by keycard holders only in the late evening at that HI, when I have stayed there, so you'd need to meet them and escort them. The main door is keycard entry needed for entrance too, later on. |

I generally have most of my meets in hotels and have never had a problem. I stay in hotels 2-3 nights a week and it’s always quite simple.
If you need a room card to access the rooms I’ll usually meet outside or in the bar for a drink first.
Never had one complaint but then I’m considerate to others in the hotel |

How large is the hotel?
The one thing to remember is hotel staff see new guests every day. They will have no idea if your guest is staying in the hotel or not.
Just tell your guest the room number and let them find your room or one of you meet the guest in the bar and take them to your room.

I've staying on the holiday Inn near the Trafford Centre and our extra just walked through and came straight to our room. We all think walked out together and no one ever battered an eye.

Many times, easy. The male half nips out to meet the guest/s and we walk back in as if we all have rooms lol . The staff have never noticed and change shifts, so often haven't a clue who's in..... don't worry, just act cool  |

This is true. We stay in Manchester often and as long as there is a key for the lift at certain hotels there are no issues. |

We have only had problems at a well known chain hotel at Lakeside east with staff standing outside the door listening, asking to come in, threatening to kick everyone out and just being general buttholes. Every other hotel meet we have had has been a great experience and hotels didnt care. Just keep the noise down and get that 2nd room key if your playmate is not staying in the same hotel. Oh and get a waterproof mattress topper if your playmate is a squirter haha   |
