Kissing at meets - Is it worth the risk?

Glasgow

There is frequent debate on Fab about bareback vs condom. However it is not unusual for safe sex "condomers" to say they enjoy kissing.

Kissing can transfer the following diseases; herpes virus, glandular fever, cold sores, warts, colds, influenza, mumps, covid-19, zika virus, ebola, malaria, gum disease, meningitis, syphilis, German measles, rabies and polio.

So I ask the safe sexers who kiss at meets; do the risks of kissing outweigh the benefits?

Many of those don't need kissing to be transferred, simply being as close as sex generally is, would be enough.

So unless you're wearing full PPE with your condomed cock out, nothing is ever going to be a 100% and even being in PPE isn't a gaurentee of safety.

If you're worried about this, maybe swinging isn't for you.

Thank you. Just a misunderstanding friend.

Not a strange topic really. Kissing is a nice prelude to sexual contact. It's just some will happily wax lyrical about the dangers of bareback whilst kissing all and sundry. Both carry risks but I wondered how those really concerened about STIs viewed the situation.

Was this taken from the PHD, dished out by the University of FaceBook?

Putting things into perpsective..

Herpes virus: Which variety? Chicken pox or cold sores?

Glandular fever: I've not met anyone who had it since 1990

Cold sores: AKA scabby gob, generally on the mouth and quite visible...giz a kiss.

Warts: not all of them are contagious, some of them just sit there and are harmless

Colds: husky voice, sore throat and mouth, sneezing and coughing, you are likely to avoid them like the plague. Non-contact needed for transmission

Influenza: see above on colds

Mumps: haven't you had your jabs yet?

Covid-19: see above on colds, mumps and flu

Ebola: not a problem if you stay away from the African hotspots.

Malaria: see above

Gum disease: not always the case, please provide proof

Meningitis: this was causing problems for students not too long ago

Syphilis: provide more info

German measles: Where's your jab?

Rabies: pretty much non existent on these shores

Polio: considering most of the population had their drops as a baby, i'm not worried.

For me kissing is worth the risk.

For me bareback sex isn't.

You may see things differently, but thankfully I'm up front enough about my preferences that people I chat to can understand them and make an informed choice on whether or not they want to meet.

Safe human interaction of any sort isn't possible if you want to go down that route.

That's why we were locked up for months on end, no handshakes, masks, washing hands, sanitiser when you touch anything etc.

Different people have different risk profiles. I am sure anyone that doesn't want bareback sex is remiss for enjoying kissing someone. Yes there's a risk to kissing, but I would consider the risk profile way less than bareback sex. Some of the things you've listed are so rare in the UK, or people have been vaccinated against, that it seems paranoia to even consider them as a valid risk anyway.

OP if you pose a question on the forum without stating the reason for asking or stating your own view then how is anyone to know how worrying this is to you? People kiss or don't kiss their playmates and I for one would not be that interested in someone who was not a kisser.

I think he's been listening to this cover of "I'll never fall in love again", by Deacon Blue...

What do you get when you kiss a girl

You get enough germs to catch pneumonia

After you do she'll never phone you

I'll never fall in love again

I did a meet with no kissing and it made me feel like a whore (not in a good way). Kissing is essential.

"OP if you pose a question on the forum without stating the reason for asking or stating your own view then how is anyone to know how worrying this is to you? People kiss or don't kiss their playmates and I for one would not be that interested in someone who was not a kisser. "

The reason for asking was to hear peoples response to the question which was about risk perception. The reason for not stating my point of view is if that is done then forum posts rapidly gravitate into personal abuse from those who do not agree with the OP's standpoint and thus they defeat the object of the post.

Personally I am not at all worried by this. I was not seeking advice but opinion. Once again any disease attributable to genital contact is viewed as significantly worse than its normal life equivalent.
