Why are you warning people about this, what's the problem?

Because meeting someone in a hotel not knowing the other persons full name, email address etc could cause embarrassment especially if you don’t check in together!

Not embarrassing for everyone, but certainly could be for the ones that require discretion.

That was just the same, when we unlocked last year...

At one hotel, only registered guests were even allowed access to the property....

From my Hotel Management experience, this format of obtaining details of everyone visiting and/orcstaying in hotels, has become the Norm since late last year.

Not only is it being the policy of Group or Chain hotels, as well as privately owned properties, I have heard from my peers that much of the drive for this format to be in use, is from Local and Regional Council authorities.

Details and record keeping of everyone in hotels is now being linked into Licensing rules.

That doesn't mean just about Alcoholic aspects, but also covers a wide range of hotel operations for which Licensing regs have existed for decades.

Covid has now meant amending and upgrading rules. But it may prove a lot more difficult for people to have a sexual meet in a hotel involving others, as control of who genuinely has access to buildings will be tighter.

Hotels which fail to heed these new rules, could face sanctions or closure.

I work reception at a chain hotel, currently you have to provide photo ID for any adult staying. Adults should be from the same address (unless for work reasons) You have to complete the track and trace for each person or you wont be allowed to stay. Our company is being very strict. Changes on 17th so who knows what the rules will be then

How do those of us with old driving licences and no passports provide photo id though?

This is something we often wonder about, thankfully it's not cropped up yet...

I think in this day and age its expected that every adult has some form of photo ID. Isnt a photo driving license something you have to have now? Either way, you might find a kind receptionist willing to overlook one i.d but the track and trace is a legal requirement

The way most checks for ID get done via internal search engines and most of the time this is why they don't ask for any further ID but if they have and ask for further details as proof could or would you be able to provide as at times it's a policy of the hotel which not only covers them but also those who would be accommodated within their property might also be part of the fire regulations should anything occur

Not just covid but it’s becoming more and more common for security to require passport or driving licence of all guests.

There’s no requirement to live together , it’s none of their business even through lockdown 1&2 no one enforced it, but they do need to know and have a right to know who is staying in their properties

Interesting. Thanks for highlighting.

While things may change over the summer (fingers crossed) wonder how they will enforce the following...

1. Person(s) A book a hotel room for a swinging meet. They check in with their details as hotel guest(s)

2. Person(s) B meets in the bar for drinks. All click so invite them up to Person(s) A room (perhaps going up separately). They don’t stay overnight but head off after a few hours.

What you have experienced is an exception to rules which are coming into use or have already been brought into use.

The underlying influence in the industry amongst hotel customers and guests is that those hotel and similar properties which don't provide the safe rules & environments are going to suffer.

Hotel booking agencies are already finding that hotels which don't have Covid safety regimes in place, are being shunned, with clients seeking properties that do offer a safe property.

I can't say how independent BnB's, Inns, or AirBnB's will deal with it, but as far as hotels are concerned, their local councils will be cracking down on ensuring safety, if they haven't done so already.

I would hope that will still work but can see there being much stricter tracking of who is in the premises.

Think you need to check as we are sure the paper license became invalid 2 or 3 years ago. You were right, as the original advice when photo licenses started you didn't need to renew paper license until you either defaced or moved house. 99% sure you had to renew to a photo license.

The recent furore over the Tories' proposal to require id to vote raised the fact that 11 million people in the UK don't own photo id. Motorists with paper licenses aren't required to switch to photographic ones until a change of details needs to be made.

Paper driving licences become invalid due to moving or when you are 70. I only renewed mine earlier this year due to age.

Aha it was the paper part of the photo card licence. In 2015 the paper counterpart was replaced by an online service, and paper counterparts ceased to be issued entirely, partially due to the number of people that kept losing them.

Is track&trace not based on the qr code scanning?

We are worried now because I called hotel and they told me that two households are allowed only. Means if we invite someone to join us, that people should be fine if they are from the one household, so a couple living together…

But if it would be a 2 men to join who do not live together, then only one will pass..

That is no good.

Pretty sure now after May 17 most hotels need you to scan in QR code on your phone on arrival and also on departure.. So they would know who someone really was ( if pretending to be someone else) and also where someone lived/where phone is registered to etc..

That might not yet be the case in the smaller BnBs and pubs with accommodation etc..

Was on the breakfast news an older chap went to a cafe first time since before the first lock down. He got there and then was told he had to pay via his smartphone, he didn't have a smart phone so couldn't pay and had to leave.

You would of thought they would of just given him a brew a sticky bun
