Text speak on a profile.

Just saw a profile - well written and descriptive, but written in text speak.

I found it a real struggle to read and it put me right off.

Is that an issue for others here too?

or the emotions but i try to keep it to a minimum

It feels as if it's written by a 14 year old, can't stand it

Think we all do that .... But it's when people start to miss out vowels to 'spk' is when I start getting turned off the profile.

When i read profiles or emails in text speak, I apply my favourite text correction option to them:

Ignore.

As text speak is more commonly used by the 20's and younger age group, its of no consequence to be but if its from someone in my age group, it would put me off as I don't think there is any need for it

Why not just have a sticky note on your desktop with a standard reply on it then copy and paste? That would only take a few seconds - probably faster than typing out a text speak reply

But a hastily banged out text speak message isn't really THAT personal is it?

I work with teenagers and my youngest is a teenager so I'm pretty much surrounded by examples of text speak and modern phrases every day - but as far as using it myself is concerned, I feel it would be a bit like wearing jeggings - definitely best left to the young! I prefer good old fashioned English and grammar.

Txt speak is ok in some situations eg the odd lol at the end of a sentence.

Although prolific use would question the persons intellect and maturity and would probably end up on the infamous Block list!

I wouldn't say I hate it, but don't expect me to read it...

There is no excuse for text speak on here. It was acceptable on the old Nokia phones where the amount of characters in one text were limited, but when you have access to a full keyboard and unlimited space in your profile, I see no need for it. It just looks immature and lazy.

Really puts us off. It's quite lazy & think it's quite rude !! It doesn't take much to write a polite, 'adult' message, & also with the correct spelling - it can really make a difference to whether we reply or not.

Agree, txt spk and total use of CAPITALS put me right off a profile, don't care how attractive she sounds!!

This might sound a bit 'lofty', but it portrays a certain mentality which I don't find attractive!!

I get messages from guys who cant even spell "cock" or "fuck" - instead they say cok and fuk!! Surely on a sex site, the ability to spell certain words correctly is an advantage??!! Lol

OP - aren't "well written" and "text speak" mutually exclusive?

Not really .... Profile was very good - lots of description and the couple had def taken their time and put some real thought into it.

Sadly they decided to use text speak rather then full words to write it all out.

"When you get loads of MSG,s of guys it's a lot easier to send a txt speech back rather then nothing"

It's not easier it's just lazy.

Don't assume that the person receiving your message has a clue what you're saying.

Would you use it for a job application or to complete any kind of official form?

I doubt it!

It was created to maximise your text messages due to the limited number of characters you could use in any one text.

Yes it has caught on but the problem as I see it is it's use in everyday speech.

Just as annoying as those who find it impossible to speak with out saying "like" at the start of evey sentence and conversation...

same here

Its quite annoying to read them so i give up. If they dont have the time to write a profile then they dont have time to meet me as im fairly long winded and I like to use the Queens English its how I was taught.
