that got your attention didn't it, actually its true, i'm hosting a party in celebration of my birthday, and wondered if anybody could advise me on, on what to serve, games to play,, or just let people get on with it, most of the people on the list so far i've already met/played with, so what do you think?
what are your experiences of partys?

Just think you need to provide the space, welcoming environment and gather the right mix of people - they can develop activity ideas. It can be stressful enough organising as it is, without loading too much pressure onto yourself.
Light nibbles, preferably stuff that won't go off quickly, no health risks to consume. You can add some soft drinks or booze, as well as let people bring their own.
Remember, not everyone who says they'll show will likely come, so bear that in mind, and test reliability beforehand, if possible, such as asking people to send confirmations etc.

Drinks - Provide a few mixers but make it a BYOB party
People - You have already covered as you know and have met whom your inviting
Play Areas - Make sure you have them, and your valuables put away to avoid accidental breakages
Party Games - 1) Leave the majority to do what they wish, 2) Have a Monopoly Board out for the boring ones, 3) Have Twister for tye adventurous, 4) Have a webcam room for the daring and so thos of us not invited can watch... |

I wouldn't try and get everyone involved in party games cos not everyone will want to play or do anything ie just even kiss someone else at the party. Good music but not too loud. Labels for peoples fab names is good cos people might recognise each other by it. Plastic cups and soft drinks only provided. Be prepared for last minute let downs so have a number un your head of maximum people and possibly a waiting list. Make sure u let people know of expectations ie considerate to neighbors and an absolute cut of for arrivals so yr not answering door at stupid o'clock or some guest answers in their knickers or less! Poss 10.30 at the latest. Also tell them to bring a towel if they want to shower after or ull have a lot of washing to do! Have fun xx  |

All fantastic info thanks (i'm writing this down)
did think of strip twister,but as you say not everyone will be interested.
name badges, great idea,, and one that didn't occur to me.

We have been to a few house parties and none of them had games as when we arrived there was good music on and nibbles in the kitchen....a lot chatted to get to know each other then slowly drifted off to their desired place for fun
Not a lot of people want to play games at parties but then again we havent tried it yet but doubt it would interest us
