Yes you can delete messages sent and received so someone logging into your account wouldn’t be able to see who you’ve been messaging
I think that’s the answer you are looking for ?
And only way you would know is if you access the account and hope someone replies to a thread where you can see the previous correspondence while you have access |

If somebody replied to a message though, and the other person saw it, they may possibly also see the message the first person had sent and deleted, as it may come back on the thread with the message reply. |

Yes. But, if one goes into your computer history it may be possible to extract the message even though it has been deleted. |
