Using a bike is good but walking and jogging are better fat burners.. I did a 4k walk with a back pack today that weighed only 14lbs. If you do that twice a week for 6 weeks and eat right then you will easy lose a stone maybe more . |

hiya,
This is a great idea,
what qualification would i need to become a personal trainer and what requirements of fitness are needed?
Basically what does a being a personal trainer involve you doing? I'm thinking of getting retrained after completing my degree.
I'd like to know the best exercises for abs too I have just got back to climbing 3 times a week, and soon be back to gym twice a week (5 days a week total) cycling where possible but abs get neglected so any exercises for those would be great.

So walking 2 miles a day carrying a 2 stone baby would shift a stone? Great |

Anyone suffering from breathing problems needs low impact .. Walking is fantastic and really burns fat .. With a pack is better for ever 7lbs more you carry in a back pack you will nearly double the kcal burn of the work out .. |

You can hit a wall when you have lost weight where you feel stuck at a weight .. To get extra losses on the scales drink water as much as you can and replace some of your carbs with clean protein .. Turkey is great and cheap.. And add an extra routine to your workouts .. This will help |

I appreciate you are probably trying to do a nice thing here, but I do hope the other advice you are giving in private includes you checking the gender of the person you are advising, their current level of fitness and previous health issues before jumping in and suggesting long walks with a 14lb rucksack. |

Perhaps you could help. I'm a novice strongman (bench 110, overhead 150, deadlift 250kg) and doing my first comp in August, however as I've really increased my calorie intake as well as time spent in the gym lifting weights, I seem to have developed a bit of a belly. Am I perhaps eating too much fat by eating lots of red meat (for the protein)
Would I be better substituting lean red meat for lean white meat such as chicken? I also take protein shakes too. |

"This guy is taking time out of his day to give people advice and encouragement....

There's every need to consider people's health and safety when giving them fitness advice.
I think the problem here is that people tend (as I'm sure you'll have noticed, OP) to look for easy answers and infallible authority figures when it comes to exercise, just like they do when it comes to diets. That makes people like 'Dr' Gillian McKeith dangerous, and it does the same for bad personal trainers.
The OP may or may not be a bad personal trainer, I don't know him so can't comment. However, even if he is a great personal trainer there's every chance that, in this medium, he'll give somebody bad advice. Potentially dangerously bad advice but more likely just the sort of bad advice that will cause them to under-achieve.
Sure, some are able to recognise bad advice when it doesn't work and go back to the drawing board but some are not, and it's those people that could stand to lose out here.
Also as a side note about qualifications, being a personal trainer is like being a nutritionist. There's no qualification you need and no body you need to be affiliated to. I could call myself a personal trainer if I wanted to. Obviously that doesn't mean all personal trainers are rubbish but it does mean that some probably are. So be careful. |

i posted this thread to help people that struggle with fitness and diet ....the internet is great for looking at new workouts and eatting plans i do it alot with great gains for my clients.
i could post diets for everyone to fit there invidiual needs but that would take ages and im doing this for free !
i point people to youtube so they have a visual of what to do as typing each individual workout would keep me here all day and again im doing this for free.
If anyone has a problem or issue with what im doing please feel free to jog on lol...

just on a side note.... the people commenting on how scared they are about the advice i have offered or my ability as a personal trainer..could you give your reasons why ??
I find it a bit odd/sad that a small amount of people always try and find the negitive in everything.
people are free to take my advice or not ...lol
i would never ever post anything that i think would harm or hurt anyone.
i just wanted to make that clear much love x |

To be fair, no one would know if you are qualified or not. I would have thought like others if you are going to give advice as a trainer then a lot of things have to be taken into account and I am not sure that can be done from one post. |

I guess getting defensive and tossing out a load of platitudes was easier than actually addressing any concrete points, was it?
"i posted this thread to help people that struggle with fitness and diet ....the internet is great for looking at new workouts and eatting plans i do it alot with great gains for my clients."
That doesn't make it ok to try and pass other people's work off as your own.
"i could post diets for everyone to fit there invidiual needs but that would take ages and im doing this for free !"
Nobody has asked you to do anything of the sort.
"i point people to youtube so they have a visual of what to do as typing each individual workout would keep me here all day and again im doing this for free."
Nobody objects to that. However, pointing people to youtube videos that claim to show how to spot reduce love handles is another matter.
"If anyone has a problem or issue with what im doing please feel free to jog on lol..."
No, it doesn't work like that. This is a public forum and if you're entitled to give out advice then so is everybody else.
You seem to think "I'm doing this for free" makes you untouchable but it doesn't. You can't just say whatever the hell you want to people as long as you're not charging them. It doesn't work for Francis Maude, it doesn't work for extremist preachers and it doesn't work for you. |

Well that pretty much speaks for itself as a compelling reason that nobody should take your advice seriously. Let's just hope the more gullible readers (because believe it or not, there are gullible people on the internet) read past the first few posts of the thread... |

I used the word scarey and I stand by it. I used it in relation to the answer given to the first question on this thread because the answer showed a total lack of knowledge.
To be honest I'm not convinced by your claimed credentials. Looking at your pics if people wanted info on weight training I suspect your knowkedge could be considerable. For weightloss, aerobic work or general conditioning these 2 threads clearly show you knowledge, however well intentioned to be clearly limited.
I repeat my earlier question about running, like I say prove me wrong? |

if its climbing your main goal, ignore the gym.
climbing is a sport where the only way to get better is to climb more......technique is more important than strength |

Don't eat crap, but equally don't ramp up on the fruits. Fruit = Sugar.
Swap the whites for browns (pasta, bread).
Eat little and more often.
Set yourself goals which are achievable
Try to eat white meats, tuna is especially good. |

try interval training short bouts of sprints or high intensity. much better for burning fat than constant level. |

My tips:
Exercise before work - the 'can't be arsed after work argument' is moot and you will feel much more alert at the start of the day
Weight loss is simple maths. Reduce your calorific intake and raise your exercise levels to speed up your BMR. Alternating high intensity bursts (such as sprints) with periods of rest will result in better cal burning during exercise & will raise your metabolism more after exercise during the recovery period.
Drink water often. If you feel 'hungry' drink first, wait and see if this reduces your pangs. Snacking between meals on sugary or high fat foods is a no no. If you're a 'snacker' reduce the size of your main meals - 5 small meals will maintain more even blood sugar levels throughout the day and keep your metabolism ticking over.
Set goals and remind yourself of them often. Make the goals SMART so you know what, when and how you're going to get fit. If you have never exercised before the first few weeks as your body adapts will be the worst. Pain means adaptation .. which is good Progress as your body gets used to increasing exercise levels (time, weights, sets, distance, exercise difficulty) can all be modified to place more demand on the body systems.
Don't try and go for a toned look before dropping the weight off through cardio / interval or circuit training means .. you just won't see any definition if your muscle has a substantial layer of fat over it.
Sorry i rambled on but I too am in the fitness business x |
