It means - not pertaining to swinging.
For Example: A Vanilla night out with Vanilla Friends means nothing to do with swinging as the Vanilla friends probably don't know anything about swinging.
Vanilla as in Plain Envelope.

The original meaning was that Vanilla in Swinging means 'Similar to a vanilla/manila envelope' Colourless and having no other function but being plain. People use both words
Another example: When you submit a tender for services to a government authority it has to go in a vanilla/manila envelope simply because of it's plain function and that a council member will not be swayed by colourful branding or indeed the excitement of a White envelope lol.
