Hello, I’m a Gas Safe Registered Heating engineer/plumber....over the years I’ve had some very hot and filthy and unexpected adventures while on the job. Could be here a while looking at my wood work....

I once had a boiler service due with a Home Serve type contract.
Boiler is on Landing, so I left my wifes used panties available in the Laundry box, (lid closed but her panties on top) . I also left the bedroom door ajar, with some fairly hot porn magazines, clearly visible under the bed.
I was pleased to find the service engineer was a fit dark haired guy in his 30s. I provided him with a cuppa and a couple of Kit Kat chocolate biscuits. I told him I would leave him to get on with it, and I would be downstairs and to give me a shout if he needed anything.
I was naively hoping for a Hot Plumber Adventure!!
When he did give me a shout it was quite an experience, a memory I shall keep for ever!
He shouted me upstairs. I went upstairs unsure what fun lay ahead?
There was no fun. He told me the system was dangerous due to a faulty flu fitted by a previous cowboy gas fitter (Cramptons of Durham) . My gas was turned off at the mains. I bare no grudge the service engineer was doing his job and probably saved my life. Unfortunately Home Serve would not rectify the fault. So I was left with no heating or hot water for 6 days in a very cold November. Cramptons of Durham who installed the system refused to make good the faulty installation. They also charged me £500 to re install a flu that they had fitted incorrectly in the first place.
So it was not a Hot Plumber adventure that I had hoped for.
Moral of the story find a reliable competent Plumber and keep your fab adventures separate. |

I would have said to the company that installed the gas flu. I would have contacted the health and safety executive, and the gas safety register. formerly corgi.

Long story cut short. If I pursued that route of complaint, the person who would have been penalised was the very young, newly qualified employee, who signed the gas safety certificate. The fat cat company owner, whose name was on the company vans, who sat on my patio drinking my coffee, while his novice employees did the graft would not have been the person who was tarnished.
I decided to put the matter down to experience. I did bring the faulty installation to the attention of the young employee who installed it but I felt the fault was with the company owner who supervised the installation.
In a freezing cold North east November winter, you will pay what it takes to get your heating working again.
I now have a very reliable competent gas engineer / plumber who I trust and give all my custom for all my properties. |
