I was that kid at school who was last to be chosen for the sports team. Isolated and absorbed in my own introspection as the coach put me on the team least reluctant to have me. I couldn't have been any different from Adam who for some reason defended and protected me from the playground bullies. He was outgoing, athletic, charismatic. A real ladies man. His smile could melt even the coldest of hearts on the coldest of days which is what happened when i bumped into him whilst trudging up Troopers hill through the snow more than 15 years since those tragic days at school. "Hi" he said as i scrutinised the 6 Ft 3 form approaching me, observing the shape of his bulging biceps and well shaped shoulders visible through his light grey hoody. "Surprised you recognise me" I said, wondering whether every other part of him was so large and well formed. "It's cold. I only live round the corner and the wife is in Tenerife. Why don't we catch up back at mine?" He said, his ice cold hand sending heat through my body as he pulled me in towards him, his fingertips touching the edge of my waist as his hand rested on my stomach soothed by the return of his protection, his validation... |
