Bad writing is distracting - punctuation, spelling, lack of paragraphs and so on. It's sometimes clear it's being typed one-handed whilst the other hand is busy. |

They could write it in a Word document which would help with grammar and spelling then copy and paste it.
Some people are dyslexic and phones aren’t always the easiest to type up long messages.
It is difficult to read at times but I wouldn’t discourage them. |

"Does anybody feel the same? I get put off from a story with bad grammar, who else does?"
Definitely grammar. spelling and layout are important.
Firstly the real publishing industry goes to great lengths to ensure such things are in place for an enjoyable read, allowing the reader to concentrate on the story.
So? A Question: why would they do that if there wasn't a very good reason?
Secondly, no matter what device the poster is using, or even if they have a difficulty such as dyslexia, there is a plethora of "helping hands/tools" available, even in the most basic word processor, to at least give some semblance to the idea that the writer took some care in presenting the product.
Thirdly and in my opinion most important of all: The layout of a story into paragraphs, good sentence construction and grammar/spell-checking allows the story to flow off the page and into the reader's mind, without the flow being broken up by "what the hell does that rubbish mean?" type of interrupts.
It's not hard, nobody is born knowing how to do it, so use the bloody spell checker. grammar checker and layout guides! |

I don’t think it’s important, not everyone can spell well or write grammar correctly.
Yes there are ways it can be corrected but again not everyone has the ability to do these things.
Perhaps with practice their writing will improve, they shouldn’t be discouraged by a few who think they should improve their grammar.
If you don’t like the way it’s written don’t bother reading it. |

"Poor grammer’s nearly as bad as posting a thread in the wrong section
This is a question about stories or fantasies
If it was a question, then it would have had a ? at the end"

I'm not here to discourage people. If I start reading something and it's grammatically poor then I switch off. There is nothing stopping these people from having a bit of pride in writing a piece that compliments imagination.
If you don’t like the way it’s written don’t bother reading it." |

I write in a note on iPhone and cut and paste .
I’ve lost a few paragraphs trying to use this box.whicj is frustrating. And reading and checking is also difficult on a mobile device.
Although there are spell checkers etc I sometimes rush to get the story out and miss a few, so I usually apologise but if you persevere and like the content I’m sure you won’t mind the odd mistake .

I sit on the fence on this topic, I agree that a well punctuated and spelled story is easier to read and follow, but someone who is willing to share a very horny story might easily be discouraged from sharing it by the grammar police. There are occasional stories that are so badly written as to make them illegible, but these I just bypass without demeaning the writer. If we could all be a little more tolerant this would be a better forum. |

Bad punctuation can make a story impossible to read, I've seen one or two on here that are one extremely long sentence. Spelling and grammar can be worked around but trying to figure out what the author meant can distract from the story. I've given up reading quite a few stories on here after just a few lines. Yes I know my spelling, grammar and punctuation are not perfect but I think I make sence (most of the time lol). |
