Those of you who like to look at pictures of retro clothing on Pinterest might well have come across a series of pictures, almost in the manner of a photo-romance - called "Brighton Rock: A 60's Chic Engagement Shoot". (If you want to see it, search on Pinterest for 'Brighton Rock 60's.)
The photographer who took it has captured the spirit of the age beautifully - the clothes, the colours, the Vespa - and the girl and boy look the part totally, him in his dark, sharp suit and she in a pale blue mini dress.
A friend of mine, Martin, knowing my interest in photography asked me to recreate it as a sort of album for his own engagement to Anna - with the difference that I was going to shoot the WHOLE of their engagement, from their meeting on the seafront at the start of the weekend, to him popping the question and slipping the ring on to her finger late on Saturday in the Grand, to the loving seduction of fiancée by fiancée in the same hotel that night.
How could I resist? With my darling M away for the weekend, I set off to Brighton on Friday night by myself with a suitable range of camera bodies, lenses and filters, lights and a tripod and several memory cards. Weather permitting, we were to begin shooing "Brighton Cock: A Sexy 60's Engagement' on the seafront at 0900 on Saturday morning. |
