Well, Friday night when I got home from work, As soon I got through the door, I said to Jane, Fancy eating out tonight, ''I don't mind she said,, Where we going'' The new Inn, Her next question was, ''Who's looking after the kids, Or are we taking them with us'' I said, its all been arranged, I stopped on the way home, And popped in to ask the usual baby sitter. She will be here about 8.00 as usual. Oh, ok she said.
So 3 hours later we were walking into the pub, Just as I thought, without any suggestion from me what my wife should wear, She wore a purple top, Over her denims, And I had, as planned wore, The blue checked shirt. We walked straight up to the bar, And asked The woman serving, Have you got a table for 2, She said, '' if you go ahead and order your drinks, Then we will let you know when one becomes available, I was a little bit excited, As in the back of my mind I was wondering if Paul and Alison was already here, Or they may not have bothered to turn up at All, I never had a clue as to what they looked like. As we walked up to the bar, I was scanning around each individual table, At the people that were there, To see if I could recognise them by the description that he had given me. Alison with short brown hair, And Paul, A stocky guy. And he would be wearing a checked jacket.
I was facing the waitress, Ordering the drinks, ''A pint of cider and half a lager please'' The half a larger was for me, As my wife has always d*unk rather excessively turned up. No sooner had I ordered the drinks, A hand rested on my shoulder, And a head leaned in from the side saying '' Hiya Mike, is that you'', I turned to face the person, who had his hand on my shoulder, And he spoke again, ''Mike it's me Paul, We use to work together'' Here was this guy, with a big cheeky grin on his face, Starting to shake my, Next He said, ''How you doing, I ain't seen you for years, I'm thinking ! Yes this guy Paul can blagg.
I did not have to say anything, I was just stood there listening to his verbal diarrhia. He was standing on my left, And my wife was standing on my right. And I could see him keep glancing across at Jane, And before I could introduce them to each other, He asked, ''Who is this lovely lady with you'', I said, as I turned to face my wife, ''Paul, I would like you to meet my wife Jane. Now looking at my wife , I could see that she was eager to be introduced to him.
At that point I took a step backwards, They came together and shook hands, He then leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek. |
