I arrive home at my parents place following a week away with work, the airport is near by and I’m starting for the night ahead of travelling home the next day. There’s been some confusion around the dates and I seem to have arrived a night early. It’s late as I arrive, around 10pm and the curtains are drawn. It’s a plush neighbourhood, I spot the usual cars parked in the drive way and a couple more than perhaps usually, I think nothing of it as the taxi pulls in and drops me off. I thank the driver, take my bag and tip him. I approach the house quietly mindful of the hour, and gently slide my key into the lock… click. I walk into the large hallway dimly lit by a large lamp, the landing light still on. |
