I'd actually written this up before but accidentally refreshed the page and lost all the text! I'll start again but would probably have to write it in sections.
This is a true story about an incredible ongoing experience I had.
A drinks reception at the Ivy was the occasion, I suited up, looking sharp and went along to catch up with a few old friends and make a few new ones. The drinks flowed, the conversations wandered and soon it was time to head home.
I waited for my train home longer than I'd have liked. Luckily for me there was a seat free between two people near the doors where I got on the train. I smiled at them both, sat down and settled in for my journey home.
"Want a chip?", came the question from the woman to my left. "Yeah, why not?", I replied as gleefully accepted her kind offer. We get talking about our night out so far and she tells me she was in town for a date but the man didn't show up. "I'm sorry that happened." I say to her. "Not your fault", comes the reply, "maybe it's meant to happen."
During our continued conversation we realise we're both getting off at the same station. "A drink to rescue the night?", I ask and she quickly agrees. We exit the station and head for one of the many pubs and bars full of people. I headed to the bar to get us drinks. While waiting for the order, I turn around to see her on the dancefloor, looking like she was really enjoying herself.
I grab our drinks and she gestures for me to join her. I'm a terrible dancer but I figured we'd have a laugh either way so I complied. There's something I was starting to like about this woman but it was far too soon to make a move, surely.
After a few minutes of pretend dancing on my part I lean into her ear and tell her she has my favourite type of hair - curls. She hugs me tight as she says thanks, but it goes on for longer than I expected. We end up moving slowly to the music, trying not to spill our drinks, somehow intertwined in the atmosphere like we were the only people in the world.
As we separate from the hug, she puts her hand on my face and pulls me in for a kiss. It starts off exactly how you imagine a first kiss with a new person to go, slow, tentative, trying to work out what the other person responds best to until we find our rhythm. She was a really good kisser, lucky me. We pull away, continue dancing while giving each other smirky looks like we both knew where this was heading. |
