Sunbathing - Chapter 1

Milton Keynes

'78?, Hotter than Greece' the headline in Susie's newspaper decried. 'Spring sun to last beyond the weekend’ It is not often that the forecast is accurate, but with the clear blue skies overhead, maybe this time they had actually got something right.

Susie had risen early today, the morning sun had filled the room long before her husband had left for work. She basked in the beauty of the spring sun, outside the temperature remained cool, but it didn't matter in her warm bed.

Susie thought about the week ahead, for once she had no concrete plans, maybe meet the girls for lunch, but nothing more, this could be a fantastic week of just relaxing.

"Can you get the sun lounger out for me please" she shouted down the stairs.

"Seriously Susan? You are going to make me late" her husband shouted in reply.

"Please, you know I can't do it" came her response. She heard muffled moans from downstairs as he trudged into the back garden, a couple of minutes later he returned to the house.

"It will need a clean, see you later" he shouted as Susie heard the front door close, and the sound of the car leaving the driveway. Free for the day she thought as she stretched and rolled in the bed. There was no need for her to get out of bed quite yet and she rolled onto her front and closed her eyes.

Susie squinted her eyes as bright sunshine poured into the room. What time was it? She asked herself as she glanced over at the bedside clock, 10:30 already, she thought, as reluctantly she took steps to leave the safe haven of her bed.

With her eyes barely open she stumbled into the shower. She set the temperature just a little lower than usual in the hope that it might bring her back to life. Ever so slowly the tepid water roused her senses, she washed her body all over from her intimate areas to her long dark blonde hair.

Susie stared in her full length mirror as she dried herself. She was in her mid 50's but still had kept her body remarkably well. Her slim body had avoided many of the ravages of ageing, her breasts still impressive, but possibly with a little more sag than she would have liked. Over all she still looked very good, and she was comfortable with her body.

Susie chose a pair of blue shorts and white vest top, this would be perfect for the garden she thought to herself. It probably would not be that hot, yet her arms and legs would be subject to maybe tanning a little.

Susie descended the stairs and grabbed a little breakfast, tea and toast would suffice quite nicely today. As she finished her breakfast she left the table as it was, she could do it later when the sun had gone, what was the point in wasting the day doing chores that could be done on the evening.

She felt a gentle breeze of warm air as she opened her back door, maybe it was as hot as the paper had said. Susie grabbed a brush from the cupboard and proceeded to brush the dust and cobwebs that 6 months in the shed had deposited. She returned to the house to find her sunglasses, and pick up a book.

Susie enjoyed reading and tried whenever she had the time, she had read everything on the book shelves, well almost everything she had, one of her neighbours had given her a thick erotic book, Susie had never had the nerve to be read it in public, this however, would be the perfect location to read.

She made her way out into the large garden, it was 20 metres deep and equally as wide, an alleyway ran along the side and back, but otherwise it seemed fairly secluded, a perfect place to bask in the sun. Susie positioned the lounger on the patio toward the sun and laid back, with her head dropping into the book.

The sun was warming up perfectly as she laid there, her skin began to tingle with the sun's warmth radiating into her soft skin. It was almost perfect, if only she could just relax and fully enjoy it. Passages from her book were playing havoc with her mind, the beautifully described encounters of this young lady titillated her as the author had intended. She had nearly fully fallen into the created world, she was Jennifer, the story's protagonist.

She had begun to feel the emotions and the pleasures of Jennifer yet she was in a different world. She felt ever so cheated that she could not experience the pleasures she received in physical form. That's why I didn't read this before she thought, it just leaves you terribly frustrated.

Susie persevered until the end of the chapter, she knew that she had to take a break as she felt a little moist in her knickers. Slightly flustered she placed her book down and moved back into the house.

She set about her daily chores to ensure the house was ready for her husband's return. Usually she would have casually carried out the tasks throughout the day, but this was her week.

Susie was halfway through washing the morning's dishes when the loud doorbell snatched her focus, she wasn't expecting any visitors, but it was not unusual to be the postman delivering a package too large for the letterbox. Sometimes it was even for a neighbour. Susie turned off the running water and strode to the door, she opened it to see, no-one, no-one at all. She had certainly not been imagining things, but whoever it was had not even been bothered to wait 30 seconds. It can't have been that important she thought as she closed the door.

As the door shut a folded piece of paper fell from the letterbox. What is this advertising? Susie thought that it was just another pointless leaflet. Susie opened the folded paper to read a handwritten note.

'Where have you gone? I was admiring the view' the letter was not signed just a smiley face at the bottom. What was that supposed to mean? Who wrote it? Who was intended for? All manner of thoughts ran through her head as she tried to make sense of the cryptic note. Was it really meant for her? Was someone watching her?

Susie felt a little uneasy as she came to the realisation that it could well have been intended for her. But it's so nicely written, there was nothing sinister about the wording, just slightly intrusive she thought.

Susie cautiously peered out a rear facing window, where had the note come from? A handful of houses could have a fairly clear view of her garden, maybe twice as many if she factored in anyone using binoculars, no that's just being silly no-one would seriously be doing that.

She looked carefully from window to window, not a thing caught her eye, there was no-one in view at all. Susie was totally intrigued, I guess it wouldn't hurt to lay out there a little while, she told herself as she picked a cold drink from the fridge and sat back on the lounger.

Susie used the book to cover her true purpose as she peered over the top of the novel, her sunglass shaded eyes hid her glances at the houses behind. She briefly saw someone walk across a window, but no-one stopped to look outside. Either the person who left the note was not looking or they were too well hidden.

Susie picked up her story from the point she had left it behind.

'Ring' she heard the familiar sound of her own doorbell, she rushed up from her position and ran to open the door. She could see a note on the door mat but first she ripped open the door to find the sender.

Once again there was absolutely nothing. Just Mark from two doors down locking up his van. Susie hurried over to him.

"Did you see anyone at my door" she called out to him. Mark walked over to her.

"What's up Susie?" he asked her.

"Did you see anyone at my door just now" she replied.

Mark looked a little confused at the question.

"Well I haven't seen anyone? Why what's wrong" he asked with concern.

"Oh nothing don't worry" she said, smiling at him as she walked back inside her house. At least if it were some sinister stalker then she had Mark around, he was the type she just knew would protect her if she ever needed anything and that made her feel safer.

Susie opened the note as she walked back into the house. 'Thank you, I was hoping you would come back, it has brightened up my day, how are you getting on with the book?' once again it was signed only with a smiley face. Who was it? Who can see me from here?

It would soon be time for her husband to return, so Susie went in the garden and collected her things. She gave a little wave goodbye to whoever was watching, she laughed at her own silliness. Would they send another message? Susan waited patiently in her front room.

The door opened, Susie's husband strolled on in, 6:30 right on time. She stayed close by the door in preparation to intercept any notes that might be delivered, but no note would come tonight.

On the surface it appeared to be just another evening, however the mystery swirled in Susie's head. At one point she even emptied the old Christmas cards in the hope she might match the handwriting, but alas no luck. She shuffled up to bed not saying a word to her husband.
