Apparently in Ancient Greece with the Olympics were clothed. Until a competitor was running a race/ his short came down and he tripped and lost the race, They awarded him the laurel crown as he should have won.
After that the Olympic were done nude
(unfortunately, back then the Olympics were a male only event)
