Many moons ago, as a naive young lad, I went to work the summer holidays at Pontin's, Middleton Sands, not far from Lancaster, where I was born.

Having not long turned 18, I was initially working alongside more experienced employees as a general dogs body, fetching and carrying, helping guests with bags and finding their way around the extensive camp.

The first influx of the summer had begun. Cars began to back up outside the main gates of the camp, their insides crammed with children and belongings, the extras lashed onto the rooves of their cars, in suitcases tied with bungees.

The day became a blur of dashing to and from the main gate, helping new arrivals find their way and answering questions about things like show and meal times.

Steve seemed to understand what had taken place outside from just the look on my face.

He grinned, "Gemma?". I nodded.

"She's an absolute animal in bed!" he went on. "Careful with her husband though, he only rarely comes out drinking, as he'll be playing snooker. He's huge, mental and hates me! It's probably good she wants you, as he won't suspect that".

I thought about the shadowy voyeur outside, but argued with myself that if it were him, I'd already know.

As the bar finally closed and the guests began to stagger out, we began the clear up of the venue. With the lights turned up, it revealed the carnage of bottles and glasses littering the tables and also Gemma standing by the door and Paula on the arm of a slightly rotund older man.

"Her husband" Steve said, "rich and generous too. They could afford to holiday anywhere, but she insists on coming here. He does realise that it's not for the quality of the venue! She'll hopefully be out later, once he's gone to bed".

The work finally done and Gemma seemingly having vanished, myself, Steve and the other staff began the short walk back to our accommodation. Gemma appeared from the shadows, her pert figure barely concealed by the sheer fabric of her dress. She walked between Steve and I, arm in arm with us both.

Lucy, the member of staff who'd warned me about Steve previously, smiled, rolled her eyes, shook her head and then laughted. It was as though she knew it was already too late to save me.
