It was a long day of conference calls, my already stupid calendar got overloaded after the lockdown. Every little conversation needed to be a meeting, you can’t tap your colleague on shoulder and ask a question anymore. My days got extended and I was busy doing phone calls and then had to make up to do some real work.
This day was exactly the same, I was online and speaking to people since 7 am. It just turned 5 30, I had no motivation for the next call which was a 1:1 with someone from Finance. I knew her by reputation, but never met her until then.
I had my camera on - I did that for most 1 to 1 calls to make it feel ‘real’. Also, my t-shirt collection keeps me amused with some of my colleagues that are way too formal.
‘Hey Sadie, it’s great to talk to you’ ‘Hey, I can see you. Let me switch on my cam’. She was a vision - dark hair, full lips and a very cheeky smile. ‘It’s great to see you, your note said that you are with corp finance for 16 years. You must have joined in middle school’ I shamelessly flirted and the colour in her cheeks was instant.
I am not so forward at work, but it was a natural reaction. ‘You are so kind. My 19 yo will gross out if he hears you say that’. ‘That can’t be true, you are only 28 may be 29 at a push’ I smiled at her to show that I am being genuine. We talked about coping with the bloody lockdown and our lives for a few minutes. The conversation flowed freely and about the work and what we wanted to get through.
30 mins later, we finished work stuff and we were still chatting. There was the chemistry and we were flirting freely. I kept the compliments flowing and we learnt more about each other. We lived only 10 mins drive away and decided that the next meeting will be in a coffee shop. Just to break the monotony of conference calls and we booked it in the calendar for the following week.
