Can anyone please recommend a car hire company in GC?

We will be there in October for 10 days.

In the past we have used companies at the airport , but they hit you with a €200 surcharge to cover insurance...which makes the rental very expensive.

Has anyone found a good deal that you can share

We always use plus cars, never had any problems with them, no hidden extras.

Hi guys

Go for Sixt

I've used them for business all over the world - usually the good models : BMW, Audi and Merc

They have a 20% discount on until end of today!! Great car hire company in my experience (hire maybe 20 cars a year)

Please do not use GoldCar unless you want to stand in a que for hours on arrival and return. Then end up arguing about extras.

Spend a bit more and go with someone like Hertz. This avoids long waits and hassle over insurance.

Take out Collision Damage Waiver in this country with an intrtnet provider I found one on Money Saving Expert .Com.

They may try to lie to you when you go and pick the car up that it's not valid (yes another GoldCar trick). Ignore them. If you have an accident and lose your deposit then make the claim back home.

Also go for a company that is fuel full and return full on your return. You pay only for what you use not a full tank.

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR AMAZING HELP!!!

WE all know that when we turn up at the airport; tired, buzzing and impatient to get going we are all vulnerable to the clever sales patter of the car hire salesmen!

Thanks to you I now feel so much more prepared for them and their bullshit...so look out for the headline "CRAZY PETITE BLACK BABE TELLS AIRPORT SALESMAN TO STICK HIS POLO UP HIS ARSE!"

I would love to visit each one of you and thank you in person

I just go on rental cars site, get a car every time from and too the airport, and we go at least two times a year, never paid over £100 for 10 days, that includes insurance, never had a problem, even get good discounts.

Make sure you deal with the car rental company direct.

Some operators only act as agents and they are the ones who can cause problems.

Never had a problem with Plus Cars, or any others in the Canary Islands, we have booked up again this year with them in both Gran Canaria and Lanzarote.

Did have a problem with Gold Cars in Malaga, apart from a 2 hours wait, they try to get all sorts of extras off you including paying for a full tank of petrol. That wouldn't be too bad if the price paid somehow reflected the actual pump price.

Have a great time, don't forget to throw a towel over the steering wheel when parked, last year had to wait for it to cool down before driving, looked a bit of a knob blowing on it. xx
