1st time - visited end January - our experience so please dont take offence if our experience differs from yours at this time of year!!!

Kasbah -

intimidating with touts prostitution and drug dealers

Yumbo

aggresive sell from shops & stalls

rancid draught beer from several ground floor happy hour bars

Bars and Clubs great for gay community - for the rest of us lets move on..

Cita - visited at 9-10 two different nights, very very quiet except the German/Dutch drinking/smoking bars

maybe imagine, come back etc would be packed out later but as of 10 on two January evenings all was quiet

Summary for our trip to Gran Canaria in January - we will be back, for a sunshine break and not expect anything more!

That's a pity!! We have been several times but never in January.

Yumbo is a gay centre with many male pick up places for gay cruising and not really swingers

Cita has some great bars and clubs downstairs but dead until 12 or later

We like fun5all and secrets but better if you go in a group

We have tried eternity club and it was really great with Spanish clientele

Imagine bar in cita is lovely and friendly but of course the centre is a bit run down... we like the mac bar the best for non swing drinks or pre club drinks.

2x2 is another good club.

We've always had a blast but tend to get a group from fab or the mirage together for a night out

I'd say try again at a better time of year

Yes that is a shame OP. Could be the time of year. We go March and October and it is busy. In fact in October, the 2x2 club were turning people away, because they were at capacity. It is true, nothing much gets busy until 11ish. Did you try any clubs? That's where most people will be. Hope you have a better experience next time.!

Just to add, we don't go in kasbah or yumbo, for the same reasons as you.

Agree with all of the above! We have a siesta then head out about 11pm til 4am as a norm! And ditto the venue's - Comeback, Imagine as a starter then Fun4all, Secrets, 2X2 are always fun. Catch up with your sleep on the beach or by the pool!

We got back yesterday after a week there.....we tend to agree with you OP on a couple of points.

Yumbo was a great place to start the evening with a variety of great restaurants to try for a nice meal then followed by a few drinks in the showbars as they are very friendly places.

C.C Cita was very run down but the jewel in the crown is the Imagine Bar which is the best place to go to get the evening started by chatting to people and gaining info on where the best place to go to is, the owners are very friendly and know the info on where to go on what night!

Clubs we tried:

2x2 - went on Monday night (couples night), there were 6 people all sitting at the bar doing nothing, staff were rude so we left pretty quickly.

Secrets - was a busy night with a good mix of couples and single guys, loved the way the club is set out, shame about the way the bar staff played the music and the annoying Irish Older Single Guy that would not take a polite 'No thanks' then a more forceful F#$K Off as an answer which ruined the night for us.

Moonlight Dreams - this has only been open since November, very well done and we both really enjoyed the place, clientele were good and the owners were very welcoming, the show was a little disapointing but did kickstart the evenings playtime, definately will go back again, the only bit we didn't like was it got quite smokey at the bar.

The evenings in January were a little chilly so I would suggest taking a warm jacket to wear and as the pavements are uneven be careful wearing high heels!

We will head back to GC again but will try a different time of year.

I agree, Imagine bar is a good place to start, get to meet lots of people, who have some good advice We have noticed that 2x2 has been hit and miss. Monday probably the quietest night, as big changeover day. But staff have no need to be rude to you, that would put anyone off!

Hi

We have been to PDI.on a number of occasions but never in January.

It seems to us that it really depends on

luck if it's going to be busy.

We tend to start our night around 10

by having a drink and then go to one of

the club's if we feel things are not to our liking we leave and head somewhere. else. The fact that you don't pay an entrance fee allows you that option.

Just one other point to the people who made the point the Irish guy was a nuisance.

In our experience they come from everywhere.

Not sure about eternity and moonlight, but other clubs are free, for couples, to go in. Only go to 2x2, and spirit and mixer drinks €7, beer about same as bars, I think. If it hasn't changed and you join 2x2 website, you will get happy hour drinks, if you go in, in their first hour of opening.

We went out from the 2nd to the 16 th of January and found it a bit quiet during the week . Moonlight bar was by far the best club in our opinion the owners could not be more welcoming and very pleasant to everyone that came through the door . Eternity at weekend was very busy and very good . Imagine bar again spot on the owners are very nice and great to kick start the night of as well as the come back bar and fun 4 all . Secrets we where put of by the prostitute offering her services . Never got chance to visit 2 X 2 but certainly will visit next yr when we are out

But deffo moonlight for us as our first choice of club

You will be very welcome there.! It is difficult for single guys getting in clubs sometimes, as they restrict the numbers. My advice is get there about 10.30pm. 2x2 club in la sandia centre, have greedy girls night on Sundays, so unlimited guys let in. Puts off some couples, but hey, you win some, you lose some

OP, it does sound like you had a quite week but on a good night it is great fun, give it another try.

On a slightly different note my big gripe is the state of the sun beds and parasols on the beach next to Kiosk 4. You must all agree they are rotten.

Many thanks for all the replies - we will be back (winter sun) but tbh we actually felt the New Town in Benidorm was less intimidating and a heck of a lot more friendly ( though of course there are no formal meeting places or clubs like they do in PDI)

We will be back to Gran Canaria but probably not Playa del Ingles - but maybe only a taxi ride away lol

Ohh that's easy 2x2 Fri,sat, sun A would make sure your in before 10.30, You could go to the bars before it but don't expect them to be busy. I am out here at the moment and love it for the relaxed lifestyle and away from all the rain and cold of London

Single guy here haven't bothered with any of the clubs here so can't comment on them but out for drinks every night and have had no hassles what so ever find people very friendly here.

Been to Cita and yumbo centre quiet a few times now and amazed how busy yumbo is in the evening all the restaurants busy and lots of people shopping although usually leave by 11pm so prob missing the action

The cita centre always seems quiet although totally transforms at night when the bars open but they look quiet

I def would come here again and intend to make more regular visits but just for the easy life weather and ease to get around the place

We just got back and went in imagine three times. Very welcoming and will get better as they have some ideas and once the other bar is open will be good.

Comeback always as a mix off clientele some vanilla and players.

The clubs in basement are a mixed bag. We like Venus as it as a big jacuzzi and never disappointed.

Fun4all we pay the 50 euro as he drinks jd and me vodka so if you have 4 rounds is worth it. Always have a great time in there

A must is the atelier cocktail bar. Great views and cocktails to die for. About 20 to 30 for two lovely cocktails out of the book. Xx

Sounds a bit steep. 2x2 do happy hour til 11pm, so 4 spirit drinks for €14

In response to the OP about GC being overrated then we have to agree.

We as a couple have been going to GC for upwards of 10 years with a minimum of 2 visits each year. We are no means "experts" but we are totally impartial in our views. We dont have "loyalties" toward any specific bar or club and we certainly will not pass comment about anything other than what we personally have experienced. We do go to ALL the clubs, and we do go to ALL of the bars mentioned.

From our point of view the problem begins here. There are numerous postings made hyping GC up, a lot by people who have specific allegiances towards specific bars or clubs, and who consequently never see the full picture.

Lets start with Kiosk 4 and the dunes. Kiosk 4 is nothing but a hut which is a snack bar on the beach, it just happens to be the hut in the Naturist Zone which is an area on a public beach set aside for Naturists. Bizzarely over the years its been promoted as a 'swingers beach", it isnt, its exactly what its name suggests.

The dunes. Full of mostly older local males, wandering around aimlessly in the hope that they come across a couple sunbathing, where they "nonchalontly" wander past back and forth before settling down as close as they dare before tugging away on thier cocks, which in turn attracts more guys. In 10 years we have seen playing in the dunes at the most 5 times, and then mostly its been females who are well past thier sell by date and are more than greatful of the attention.

Bars, Comeback bar is tired, the furniture is old, the decor is old and over the years the service has gone downhill. In October/November waiting 10/15 minutes to get served is something that is normal. Imagine Bar, is just what GC needed after Miaow Miaow closed, a fantastic cosy bar, a good atmosphere, nice lighting and seating that is not only comfortable but is geared toward socialising. The owners are great and the prices reasonable. Well worth the effort to find it.

The clubs are very much "hit and miss" depending on what night of the week it is, 2x2 can be good, the playing area isn't the most luxurious of places and the owner does tend to favour the local single males when allowing entry, with most being 45+ in age. There is the odd younger guy, mainly at weekends. From experience the club quietens off quite quickly around 1am.

Fun4All is a disco type club, always spotlessly clean and very well run. There are 3 play rooms, 1 lockable and again impeccably clean. Bar prices are reasonable, with generous measures of spirits.

Secrets is cavernous, a very busy club, mainly attracting a younger crowd especially at weekends. Lots of playing areas, with a generous sized couples only area which tends on the whole to remain "couples only". Probably more actual playing goes on in Secrets than any other club.

Eternity, mainly attracting locals with Saturday night being very popular, the only club to charge an actual entrance fee for couples of 20 euro, but you do get 2 drinks free. Quite dark and tends to be a late night club for playing, with not much happening until at least 3am. Well worth a visit to have a flirt with Jose the TS who works the bar.

All in all thats it for GC, in truth Playa del Ingles is a concrete shithole, its not in anyway pretty the Cita Centre has seen its best years and the Yumbo is Ok for a few drinks and a night of people watching with a visit to Sparkles possibly being the highlight.

For some the above is Nirvana, for those that have holidayed in Cap or Hedo or even Desire, its disapointing to say the least.

Remember, hype never matches reality!

They may do 4 spirit drinks for 14 Euro, but theres hardly anyone else in until at least 11, save for the single guys who arrive early to guarentee entry.

Good write up I have read from many people on here that Moonlight club in Nilo centre is worth a visit, with not too many single guys, so may be worth a visit

Just to add, I think the meeting bars are a great place to go, if you are first timers to the clubs in PDI. Comeback Bar was the only real meeting bar, on our first visit and although we, personally didn't like it, it gave us our introduction to the clubs, as someone kindly took us down to Fun4All. I understand Imagine is a great bar to go to and it is what was needed. Well done them!

"1st time - visited end January - our experience so please dont take offence if our experience differs from yours at this time of year!!!

Kasbah -

intimidating with touts prostitution and drug dealers

Yumbo

aggresive sell from shops & stalls

rancid draught beer from several ground floor happy hour bars

Bars and Clubs great for gay community - for the rest of us lets move on..

Cita - visited at 9-10 two different nights, very very quiet except the German/Dutch drinking/smoking bars

maybe imagine, come back etc would be packed out later but as of 10 on two January evenings all was quiet

Summary for our trip to Gran Canaria in January - we will be back, for a sunshine break and not expect anything more!

"

I don't find it disappointing. In hull we have no clubs no sun no sand. Yes we do go to temptation cancun and been spoilt but pdi is the next best thing and only four hours away. Sun all year round and clubs aplenty. Yes it and miss but you can get naked and no one cares. Xx

Agree with this. We go with the attitude that we are going for a lovely relaxing holiday in the sun, anything else is a bonus. If we weren't going in the clubs, we would just go for a quiet meal somewhere and be just as happy

That is not meant to cause any offence. Sure we will be back in the future.

If your younger 20-45 grouo not sure if PDI swing scene be for you. Stick to nights like Dpraved at xtasia and chic st Liberty elite.

You are right, the clientele are mainly late 40's upwards! I think the Etenity club in Nilo and maybe Moonlight club, may attract younger people. We have met some lovely young couples, but that age group is in the minority and of course it depends what everyone is looking for

Having been mostly in Oct/Nov and Feb/March last year we decided to have 10 days in June and found the age group distinctly lower from what we normally find. As always we stayed at La Mirage and during our stay we encountered quite a few couples from Europe in their 20's and 30's staying there. The bars and clubs also had a lower age group, very few were Brits though.

What we can say though is that despite June being quieter than we what we normally find when we go to GC it wasn't "dead", La Mirage was never less than 75% full, and the clubs were busy enough with lots of fun to be had. If anyone is contemplating going in the Summer months then the worry about it being quiet should not let them be put off, Although we would advise against July due to quite a few of the club owners taking holidays.

"In response to the OP about GC being overrated then we have to agree.

Thanks for the invite

In our humble opinion and 1 forged same as yourselves from years of visiting the island a cpl of times a year it's fantastic! Not 1 bit overrated we have yet to have a bad experience there!

Kiosk 4.. Is there active physical swinging going on, no not at all but just long the way there is the gay section of the beech, are gay men there having sex in public? Ofcourse not. It is as you say a naturist beech but it's great that the different community's have an area that is pseudonymously marked out so that like minded ppl can meet and hang out get to know each other whilst enjoying a relaxing time on the gorgeous beach.

Comeback bar gets very busy, that's the only reason you would be waiting to get served, Martin and his staff work tirelessly to make sure your glass is never empty, and if you have been overlooked accidentally a quick shout to tell them you need service would see you right. We didn't get to imagine last year so can't comment but sounds a great bar and look forward to trying it out in a cpl of week, not that we will be purchasing a drink from them as saskia told me last year in secrets they don't play with customers

The club's you are bang on they are hit and miss but if you are as sociable as we are, we've met ppl at the beach we've met ppl at the bars we've got a good idea where the majority of ppl are heading so you can make an informed choice on where best to venture onto that particular eve

We've visited the Yumbo for us it was an eye opener, but great fun something we think you must experience whilst on the island they have a drag show on most eves it's all very light hearted fun.

We tend to stay in maspalomas not pdi that's our preference we find it more picturesque with a good selection of hotels for any budget, saying that it also has a more luxurious selection of hotels so that any1 with the opinion that pdi is a concrete shithole and totally welcome to their opinion let's not get that wrong, you can still enjoy a luxurious picturesque break within a cpl of pound taxi fare to the bars and clubs.

We are a very extrovert cpl which probably makes all the difference in gc we will find ppl to socialise and play with anywhere even when it is quiet you will find us at the bar having a good old knees up with some1... Any1 infact lol! We understand this isn't everyone's flavour, some prefer the more focused swinging resorts such as cap, some are just not as outgoing and may struggle to interact socially each to there own! But for us gc has all we need for a fantastic break weve enjoyed every single day we've been there and hopefully will continue to do so for many years. Think iv babbled on enough here, catch yas all in the sunshine

I think we all have to make the effort to meet people and be sociable in GC, otherwise you won't have fun! Yes PDI is not the most picturesque place to go, apart from the dunes of course, but we really go there for the 'scene', which is good, in our opinion. We do like one particular club, as it suits us and we meet up with lots of our returning friends also and that's what it is all about for us. If we are asked, we would always advise people to try the clubs and bars themselves, we all like something different, thank goodness, otherwise we would all be squashed in the same club! The main thing is, enjoy your holidays and have fun

We tend to stay at the Southern end of PDI, around Cita....much less high-rise, less busy but really handy to beach, shops and for evenings, the Clubs. We never need to taxi, unless going to Nilo, or Maspalomas. I think staying there, adds to the feeling of relaxation.....for us anyhow.

It is most definitely what you make of it....we're having a quieter trip this time but enjoying lazy days, 21/22° heat and a break from the 4° cold, wind and rain, at home.....and the chore of the daily grind, surrounding work and home life.

"we got back from pdi last week, all the parasols and most of the sunbeds have been re-newed at kiosk 4 "

I'm going to get up early in the morning to grab one before Russianbabe gets the new ones near the kiosk .

PDI has a number of very decent hotels fantastic restaurants, with a touch of Blackpool at Yumbo and Cita

Martin is always very welcoming in the Comeback Bar when it's busy you might have to get there attention for a drink, you get that in Westhersoons.

Kiosk 4 is yes just a shack on the beach, but a lovely place to sit around to meet and chat to like minded people .

I love GC, and please don't forget to have a drive, walk or tour around the rest of the Island, the small forest around the center and views from the mountains are special.

We go every year about October September, always great weather, this year the middle of September, we agree with a lot of what you all say, we tend to just go with the flow, love the sunbathing at hut 4, but we have started to get along with the Germans Dutch and other people from other country's now, they are much more laid back than us British, and take it for what it is, just good fun on holidays, we don't go to too many of the clubs now, they are getting like is the uk a bit clicky, maybe it's our age lol, but we find most people friendly and happy to be there on holiday, we don't just go for sex, have now been to a few German Partys there, after chatting to them on the beach, and that's great fun, always great people there. Our advice is just don't go with expectations and you will have fun.

We never made it to kiosk 4 in November, making a special effort to get there when we arrive in march, hope it lives up to expectations.....

A Sun lounger would be good, three days we went down in November, each day earlier than the previous, and not a Sun lounger to be had.9 years we been going and that's the busiest we saw the nudist area.

If your not there by 9.30 ish to 10am it's a question of laying on sand. As you say it seems to get busier year on year.

We're here now, met some lovely people via fab and in various bars mentioned already, only place we wouldn't venture near again is 2x2 as we found the staff rude and obnoxious, although we know people who enjoy the place.

As for the IMAGAINE BAR full marks for the venue and the owners both nice professional people an ideal 'start the evening off place'.

We always lay on the sand! Take a couple of towels and buy a brolly whilst we're there, sorted!

Edinburgh

We took our beach tent with us last November and it was one of the best things we've done!

Only plus point about kiosk 4 is - mainly - you can guess that if you talk to anyone they are probably swingers too. We've only ever met one couple we chatted to on the beach later that evening. It is only a naturist beach and it's patrolled regularly by police.

Beach tents are great but also I bought a 3m x 3m groundsheet. It's really lightweight, so handy brought anywhere and it stops most of the sand getting on towels and inside beach tent. Only cost £7 on eBay, from China
