After a slow start to my visit to the beach in Almayate, yesterday took a distinct turn for the better!
A rather delicious and open minded woman from the Netherlands entertained four of us in the field of bamboo behind the beach. I was beginning to feel a tad disillusioned, but I guess all the best comes to those that wait and this is certainly an experience that will last in the memory for a good long while.
The day only improved when I stumbled upon a fantastic beach bar named 'El Hornillo' (very apt) There was a real cosmopolitan mix of people and it was like going back in time to the 1960's- The staff spoke little or no English and there was a real rustic and authentic charm to the place. Thank god for 'Google translate'!
Many thanks to the uber filthy Ms Styles for bringing this area of Spain to my attention. I've had a place out here since the late 90's and was none the wiser until I read her 3 recent factual books. I can thoroughly recommend not only the beach but the books too.
I shall be back later in the week to see what shenanigans are on offer- A great day! |

Thank you. Yes, was one of the ones I'd looked at as a possibility. The other was Cortijo Chico. A small bnb type place. Anyone know this place? Thinking as it's small may not be so easy for her to take any "friends" back to should she wish to! So BQ Andalucía may be better. |

Hehe...I think the last point has nailed it. The Cortijo is on the beach so maybe another with same name in the hills. She missed her "friendly" hotel staff during her last stay (all moved on, replaced by sterner, older staff!) so I think Juan may have swung it, so to speak. |

I stayed next door to BQ, an apartment called Proamar. It's actually attached to BQ and you have your own privacy. Very reasonably priced -£35 a night for a 2 bed apartment.
As an aside, do try and visit a great Chiringuito called El Horniellero. Very authentic and the staff are absolutely lovely.
Enjoy your stay- I had a blast there! |

Thank you. I'll pass on your tip to Mrs. Marlee. Still a few months away until she goes but she's excited already. Found the chringuito website. Looks wonderful. |
