Alicante Airport Car Hire

Just booked our June 2025 holiday to Vera Playa and want to collect a hire car from Alicante Airport.

Notice Gold Car has put up its excess to €2300 and to take out their insurance to cover this excess almost doubles the cost of the rental.

I've just been quoted £45 for annual excess insurance cover. Had it before but never claimed on it as the cars returned have had the same number of scratches and dents as when collected and do take time to check, photograph and inform the staff of damage not shown on the form you sign when collecting car.

Has anyone ever claimed on this type of excess cover insurance and any suggestions on car hire companies they have used.

Thanks.

Hi we have taken excess cover last year and used it..and they paid us back for the small scrape we had.and renewed the insurance this year.

You should take vids of the car before ..don't do porn vids ..regards car hire just try the internet.

We hired a car every weekend when we lived in Alicante for 6 mths..good luck x

Try costa coches, as previous poster mentions, they're based in Mojácar and are a lot cheaper, and you can opt to reduce your excess to nothing for around €8 per day. You either pay by bank transfer or pay cash on collection.

Try Coys car hire, maybe a bit more expensive but reliable and no upfront card transactions - used them 15 times - can’t fault

Costa Blanca Spain...

Most of the car hire company's at Alicante will try to screw you for some kind of damage if you don't take their (very expensive) insurance. Be prepared for them giving you a very hard sell.

If you do not take their insurance take lots of photo's and a video of the car on collection and drop off. Make the time to do it, don't rush and don't forget the interior.

I'm on a few local FB groups and issues with car hire company's screwing people over non existent damage is endemic. In the summer I read something almost every day on the subject.

Also be aware of the petrol scam, most will try to charge you for a full (very expensive) tank and tell you to bring it back empty. Knowing full well that very few people do.

Insist on full tank to full tank and top up just before drop off. You will then only pay for what you use and at normal not exorbitant prices.

Thanks everyone for the advice on here and privately.

Last time we hired from Goldcar apart from taking ages to get sorted they were not happy we had excess cover of our own and kept saying we would still have to pay €1300 for any damage, which is true but this year the excess has increased to €2300.

Will give all the suggestions a look.

Thanks again.

Good shout, they usually add an admin fee that is often more than the cost of a tank of petrol, so something to keep in mind

I always use Costa Blanca Transfers, the hire cars and no deposit to pay.

Small family firm that work via recommendations.

The meet you at the airport and it's a 5min drive to puck a car up.

I pay €200 for ford focus for a week.

Just wouldn't go anywhere else.
