We are in the hotel atm. Checking out today 11th Feb.
Plusses… the food. Buffet breakfast and dinner. The freshest food. SO MUCH choice and all very fresh.
Staff very professional. Very attentive. Very polite.
Huge swimming pool which in our opinion has warmer water than the smaller pool. (Smaller pool is still large)
Excellent location. 10 mins walk from CITA..
Negatives : Despite being marketed as a 5*, there are occasions when you feel that they’re looking for an opportunity to get more €€€/£££ out of you.
eg.. room safe, is optional. €10 per day.
Cabanas at pool €50 . per day
If you don’t return the pool towels at end of stay we were told that there’s a fine (however we checked out 2 hours ago and the receptionist didn’t ask etc).
We are availing of the pool facilities and a courtesy room until we leave for airport at approximately 7pm.
If you’ve stayed at GOLD , which we have many times, we’d say that Gold has a more holiday vibe, more tropical decor etc etc.
RIU is significantly larger and more generic than GOLD, which has a tropical feel going on all the time, RIU is just a large generic type hotel.
GOLD poolside food and cocktails have much more choice. Sunbathing area in GOLD is far more comfortable. RIU loungers are your basic type. GOLD cabanas are free.
However the buffet breakfast and dinner as stated are a big plus.
Rooms.
RIU room ground floor, smelled of damp with little to no view other than a side road. For the same money you can book a ‘Superior South facing’ (beach view) balcony room at GOLD. Receptionist claimed there were no other rooms available but it being February, it definitely wasn’t fully booked so we doubt their honesty.
So to sum up…
If half board/fully inclusive is your preference with a large selection of excellent food available within the hotel, and you’re not concerned about there not being a tropical ‘holiday vibe’ and you’re also happy to settle for a ground floor room with little view, then RIU. (Obviously you can pay more for higher floors but then GOLD definitely wins out on price).
RIU also offers nightly free entertainment , bands etc.
If you want a hotel with a holiday vibe , staff in relaxed uniforms, a nice selection of poolside drinks and food, and a far better room/view for the same money, then GOLD.
Both 10 mins walk from CITA.
11th Feb. Not a cloud in the sky for past few days. 20°. Can’t beat it. |
