KINK SCENE
Its not very active here in Gibraltar or nearby, you’ll have to go to a swingers club like the kamelot a little while up the coast. Its mostly people passing through like yourselves with only a few locals. A fair few men however . Also a few nudist beaches up the coast less than an hour away
NIGHTLIFE
Depends what kind of vibe your looking for, not many places are open past 12 especially on week days. places like lord nelsons or allswell in casemates, bridge, brunos, ivy’s or even the casino in ocean village tend to be the most lively with brunos, bridge and lord nelsons open quite a bit later on Fridays and some other days. Apart from fridays the casino is most often last bar open, all venues tend to close by 5-6am latest.
There’s a “nightclub” called viceroy which looks pretty sleek and cool with a rough guide of 25+ but its not open often.
There’s this place rock on the rock which is the closest thing apart from brunos and viceroy to a nightclub that tends to attract a younger crowd with a bit of a rave vibe in events.
RESTAURANTS
My go to’s are Bianca’s, waterfront, rendezvous, s and little rock cafe. Make sure you get a solid dinner as the loca food delivery service hungry monkey doesnt work after 11pm and there’s one take away called essouira which is usually the last place you can get something to eat late night, staying open based on how busy it is, 4am or so.
CURRENCY
Remember the local currency is pounds sterling, interchangeable with uk pounds are Gibraltar pounds but they wont take Gibraltar pounds in uk. NEVER PAY IN EUROS, local businesses are not required to take them and will therefore charge a very high exchange rate, use your bank card and let the bank do the exchange rate if all you have is euros. cigarettes, alcohol and perfumes are a lot more inexpensive than uk, with a bottle of Smirnoff at about £8 for a litre and cigarettes at approx £3 a pack, dont expect cheaper prices at the pub tho but expect a better than uk pour .
TOURISTY STUFF
You might have heard about the apes on the rock, incorrectly called monkeys, but there are also some very scenic sights from the rock. You can get up there a few ways, i would recommend a private taxi tour, a bus tour is cheaper but less personal, the cable car or walking but the walking might be a bit too much for most. You’ll see the wild apes, st Michael’s cave which is breathtaking ,the skywalk platform, WW2 tunnels the suspension bridge among other things.
A small but interesting museum with even an Egyptian mummy. A gorgeous botanical garden with a small rescue zoo, worth a visit . Loads of lovely beaches and a dolphin safari.
