Whilst out with two of our vanilla friends over the weekend, they announced to me that they had decided to tie the knot here in Spain. after customary congrats I mentioned I was sure that if resident ex-pats married in Spain that the Spanish authorities did not recognise it as legal for two years. We had a brief browse online but failed to find anything related to it. Anyone here shed any light? , I'm a bit bothered I've misinformed them..

Is there a Spanish citizens advice bureau or registry office equivalent you could contact?

They are going to do some digging themselves. But it was after we parted company that I began to really wonder if I was correct.

Costa Del Sol

If I remember rightly one of the couple must of been a resident or citizen of Spain for a least two years. There is a lot of bureaucracy and it is quite time consuming. It is easier and quicker to have to legal bit done in Gibraltar and then have the ceremony/ party in Spain.
