The carnival is massive and weeks of preparation, it's televised most night's

If you get the opportunity, get there. Great event! Just don’t stay at the Buenos Aires if you want to sleep before 4am.

Went last year in June. Loved the carnival parade and final night / street party in and around the Yumbo.

Not sure about the Sardine mind.
