It seems the restrictions are working and fences are set to be reinforced to help preserve the dunes

Good to hear.

They did a similar thing in Pamukkale. Many years ago you could use all the travertines which started to ruin this natural beauty. Now it’s restricted to a number of public ones to enjoy the thermal springs in order to preserve the natural beauty.

It will be interesting to see which fences they reinforce. There did seem to be two standards of posts, and we could never work out which sort were around the areas where playing is said to happen.

There are paths marked by posts between the Rui Palace and the lighthouse, they spilt up in different directions and are beautiful walks, the idea is to stay between the posts which mark either side of the path.

There are also posts surrounding balcon plants at various locations between the start of the dunes at PDI to the lighthouse to try to stop people trampling the plants to sunbath on top of the smaller dunes... Yes we saw it regularly.

The area between Kiosk 4/6 and the dunes seems to have become the toilet ... Don't dig too deep !! Yes we actually saw someone take a shit and kick sand over it at the back of the first dune where people regularly sunbathe just out of the wind.

Is it really any wonder they are tightening up access ?

The amount of litter and total disregard shown for the environment, it's about time they did something long term...and leaving your litter neatly bagged up under a bush wasn't actually acting responsibly. BBQ's, beer tins, drinks bottles, food wrapping, cigarette butts....wipes, condoms, discarded windbreaks, certain parts were a disgrace. Even the 'massage' fliers on top of the posts alongside the trails, picked up and discarded, blowing about.

I remember a few years back when one of the green areas was totally destroyed by a fire.

Yes, fun in the sun, is exciting etc but for every responsible person, there were obviously dozens of thoughtless ones.
