We like and use Birmingham Airport. Don't know about a smoking area though, sorry.
Only criticism from us is that the departures pub / bar could be bigger , always queues to get a seat.
Apart from that can't complain . Enjoy your next trip ![](/icons/s/cool.gif) |

"Has anyone used birmingham airport for Gran Canaria?
We thinking of trying it next time but just wondered on reviews and does it have a smoking area for hubby

never had any problems at BHX .... Nothing good and nothing bad to say TBH
RE: Smoking
Up until about a year ago there was a smoking area behind one of the bars but last 2 times we have been (october 21 and march 22) it has been "temporally closed". I do not think they intend to open it again. |

Here now. There’s nowhere to smoke once you are through security. I’m pretty shocked as I thought most airports have shelter. Theres big signs saying it aswell so not like It’s hidden away somewhere xx |

"Smoking area is now gone, never had an issue myself with the place and flying on 15th(so touch wood)
I’d advise booking a lounge for about £30 each, you won’t regret it x
Each time I flyer from Birmingham Airport there been delays
Why"

Used BHX most of the time. They used to have smoking a couple of years back but were renovating and refurbishing the airport and don’t think they ever provided an area to smoke or vape since.
So my parents had to have their last smoke outside departures, as once through security, the next time you can smoke is when you arrive.
It’s not a bad airport, but when compared to the London and Manchester airports. Especially morning flights seem to get out more fluidly with less waiting.
But if there’s a smaller airport option, like East Mids and Cardiff, then I personally like these over Birms.
Shopping isn’t bad and Grey Goose is currently £35 a litre which is cheaper than the canaries, so if you do enjoy a good voddy, stock up and bring it home with you.
Food like most places is overpriced so spoons, BK and Giraffe are the usual pick.
As the earlier post mentioned, if you can book into an Aspire or the No 1 lounge. (We pay £20 with our priority pass) then this gives you a nice option if you’re there 2/3 hours before.
It’s more relaxing, buffet food/breakfast. A bar with beer, wine, gin, rum etcetera and WiFi.
Based on this, we usually spend more when we are in the Wetherspoons, so makes more sense to sit in the lounge and spend less with the comfort of not queuing for a beer.
The added bonus is that if your flight is delayed, then you’ll entitled to kick back in these lounges longer.
Great way to start your hols. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

Just to add, if you use the airport a few times a year, then it’s worth considering getting a priority pass. You can get a cheaper annual membership with Groupon or some credit cards, throw one in or a dragon pass.
This will bring the cost of using the lounges down and can also take guests. |
