"Dan's got it wrong it's abora continental we are going too ."
We got it wrong once (well one of us did lol) and ended up there a few years ago, in our opinion it's far nicer than the Caterina except for the views and the location, the food and service was better on that particular visit.
It's a nice walk but taxis are cheap, we walked in and taxi back and sometimes even walked back. Eden isn't too far over the bridge. |

No, wear what's comfortable. Bathing costume, bikini or wrap in a towel.
You'll soon realise nobody really looks at anyone else and there's very few gym buddies (us included lol)
Enjoy |

"We thought the rooftop was naturist only"
I've neve seen a thing that says you must be naked, only that you can be naked.
Loads of people come up and sit at the little table and chairs clothed and nobody complains.
Seen many couples where the M is naked and the F has a bikini or just bikini bottoms |

"Is it worth paying extra for adults only floor ? "
Not really tbh
Any noise there is comes from the pool and the restaurant in the evening and an extra floor makes little difference.
You do get an espresso machine, towel robes and some toiletries though.
Top tip - take your own espresso capsules as they only give you a few, the spar own brand are pretty good from just up the road especially compared to the vile tasting stuff that comes out of the machines in the lobby and restaurant |

The rooms are actually identical, we've stayed in lots, 525 is definitely identical to 425 but without the espresso, robes and toiletries and of course the higher aspect. The only rooms we had that are bigger are the family rooms mostly in the block nearest Cita which we had several times due to the works at the other end. It's a helluva walk to the solarium from there ! |

As far as we know all rooms are now open. Before we flew out we emailed to get the upgrade costs, this is the reply:
We are pleased to know that you have chosen our hotel to spend your holidays.
As you already reserved the double familiar room, if you want to upgrade to
- D. solarium it costs: 15€ per day
- D. superior it costs: 45€ per day
- D. private pool it costs: 75€ per day
Even so, you have to check on arrival if it's possible to upgrade because it depends on the availability.
Best regards,
ANA |

We have been going to this hotel for years as we love the location but after coming hom a couple of days ago we can see where they are trying to cut costs
The coffee machines are a disgrace……whatever they now use is disgusting and the peanut paper cups are shite
The dining room was full,of flies and never seen so many sitting on all the buffet food…..nothing was covered
Also the amount of screaming babies we where surrounded by was unreal
Nothing like being woken up every bloody hour by babies….nice
We don’t usually complain but this time just topped it for us |

We go for the first time in 6 weeks
To be fair, the whole island is having the problems with the flies, following the heavy rains. We certainly have never experienced the likes of it, they were everywhere.
Hope it's just a blip and things are back to normal by December, as we've only ever heard positive reports and are going with friends who have previously stayed there. |

Well if you like a coffee with your breakfast just be careful it’s mixed properly
We didn’t notice this many flies when eating away from the hotel so you would think food would be covered and good luck you don’t get places near tiny babies |

"peanut paper cups are shite"
The paper cups are useless, but the lobby machine had proper cups most of the day and if we wanted a hot drink and no cups were available we just used 2 plastic cups inside a peanut cup it did the job ok.
"The dining room was full,of flies"
There are loads of flies this year, however, its not just the Catarina that has them, they are everywhere. We ate out a few times and were constantly being bombarded with the pesky things!
"Also the amount of screaming babies we where surrounded by was unreal"
That's what happens in a family hotel and or family room. Although, saying that although we were not in the adult section and had no issues with screaming babies. |

The paper cups are useless, but the lobby machine had proper cups most of the day and if we wanted a hot drink and no cups were available we just used 2 plastic cups inside a peanut cup it did the job ok.
The dining room was full,of flies
There are loads of flies this year, however, its not just the Catarina that has them, they are everywhere. We ate out a few times and were constantly being bombarded with the pesky things!
Also the amount of screaming babies we where surrounded by was unreal
That's what happens in a family hotel and or family room. Although, saying that although we were not in the adult section and had no issues with screaming babies. "
Could you use your own cup, if you bought one at the Chinese shop? |

"We have been going to this hotel for years as we love the location but after coming hom a couple of days ago we can see where they are trying to cut costs
We don’t usually complain but this time just topped it for us
We go for the first time in 6 weeks
To be fair, the whole island is having the problems with the flies, following the heavy rains. We certainly have never experienced the likes of it, they were everywhere.
Hope it's just a blip and things are back to normal by December, as we've only ever heard positive reports and are going with friends who have previously stayed there.
Well if you like a coffee with your breakfast just be careful it’s mixed properly
We didn’t notice this many flies when eating away from the hotel so you would think food would be covered and good luck you don’t get places near tiny babies
We're in one of the Adult floor rooms with it's own coffee machine, people had already mentioned about the coffee downstairs. We'll be eating out a few nights, as long as we can get enough food/snacks to get us through the day.... "
Was t aware there was coffee machines in the higher floor rooms
You,ll have to let us know if they take pods??

That's unfortunate, we noticed standards had slipped quite a bit in August last year but January and March were noticeable better. Screaming kids I'd be asking to be moved...
We actually did ask to be moved but the only option was right at opposite end of hotel which we didn’t want so had no choice but to put up with it
I hope you didnt wake the babies at 4 in the morning coming in "
No we didn’t as was in a lot earlier than that due to lack of sleep |

Take your own Nespresso pods (that's a hat they were last time anyway) as they only leave a couple. Spar own brand were pretty decent just up the road. |

Yep It’s a Nespresso takes the original style pods. They do not replace them if they are used. Nor the sugar or tea or milk etc. (although you can get these from the snack bar). Make sure the milk is in date as all of ours were out of date!!! We even had to specifically leave the dirty cups out, as if we left them by the machine, they didn’t get replaced either.
There are also robes and slippers, and “premium” mini toiletries.
Is everyone else’s shower pressure absolutely shocking? Takes me 4 times as long as normal to get showered! |

We're not long back after an 11 night break there.
Been going for many years, love the location being close to Cita and the dunes.
However, we found the food to be very poor quality. School dinner type. Files all over the food. Hotel corridors very tired.
This wasn't cheap either. Think we'll stay elsewhere next time |

Stayed there when it first opened, couldn't fault it, staff/service excellent etc Usually do Airbnb's so we can ditch the clothes and have our own space but going to Catarina with friends, rearranged from last year when we had to cancel. It'll be grand I'm sure....back to Airbnb's after that most likely |

We've been 3 times in the last 15 months and numerous times over the last 6 or 7 years, we first went around the time it had a refurb as it was quite fresh.
We started to notice a decline in standards since COVID but last visit it was slightly better, no doubt a major refurb would make it even better again but we always found it comfortable, convenient and for the most part clean.
The food is mostly just simple fare, not fine dining but then again it's not expensive for what it is. There was always a good selection of salads but in march there definitely wasn't, but then again we've noticed the even the supermarkets at home don't have the same selection they would have had a few years ago (coincidence?)
What we tell people about the food is, we've never went hungry, and we've never been ill and there's always something that's quite nice but we rarely said that was delicious (except one of the nights when they did the Asian food)
We're going Airbnb next month for the first time but will definitely be back to Caterina next year at some point.

We've always been fans of this hotel but tried an adult only hotel on our last visit in September, which we really enjoyed. The gym and variety of classes including pilates and yoga were a great hit.
It didn't have a nude terrace but we spend all our time on the beach so not an issue.
After reading the latest comments it seems we've made the right decision in booking to go back there in November rather than Caterina.
So sad to hear that standards have dropped as was always amazing |

We definitely wouldn't say it's bad, but definitely wasn't as good as it has been.
I suppose when you go somewhere very frequently you start to notice the little things and of course a lot of the experience depends on the guests in the hotel ...
Earlier this year some complete piece of shit pissed in a flower pot on the roof instead of using the toilet at the other end. The hotel were there immediately it was reported and removed the flower pot and sprayed the area with jeyes fluid.
Someone was sick on the carpet outside their room !! What can the hotel do ? |

As long as the food, rooms, and cleaning is decent we won’t have any complaints, our first filter tends to be adult only hotels when booking, but we got such a good deal with this holiday it would be daft not to book it, we are kind of hoping there won’t be a lot of kids staying as half term should be over by the time we arrive |

Usually owner, or their representative, meet you at the property. You simply text them when you are leaving the airport....we use a private transfer, so basically can say "be there in 25 minutes".
There's hundreds of Airbnb's, use the map, select an area and choose a few, read reviews etc to see if owner checked up during stay, or any negative comments(one review of a property mentioned CCTV in the living room). Use Google maps, street view etc to see how private it is....just do your research. Personally, would rule out any ideas of parties etc but we've never had a problem bringing one or two couples back.
Plenty to choose from, all budgets covered...just choose carefully.
Can't pm |

That's what we've done, we booked an Airbnb (apartment) that very good friends on Fab have been using for a very long time. They normally go for 2-3 months and stay there.
Happy to give you the details when we come back. It's around £450 for 7 nights |

Usually you can pick up the location from the listings pictures by looking within the general area the Airbnb map gives you, if you know the area well. Things like hotels/landmarks in the background, shape of pool and surroundings... use Aerial view on Maps. We've been able to find almost all that we've looked at and stayed at. |

No they don’t replenish the tea/coffee/sugar/milk, but apart from the Nespresso Pods, you can grab as many as you like from the 24hr drink station in reception or at the snack bar downstairs.
(Nespresso machine is only in the adult-only floor rooms. We got a pack of pods from the Spar in the next block up the road for €2) |

Beer, wine, soft drinks good
Food decent, cleanliness good.
Coffee, cocktails, crap.
Solarium run down but ok, but there’s no bar so you have a trip of five floors to get one, bring a drinks carrier.
Water pressure is crap.
We knew it was a family hotel but we thought they would also cater for adults only, the only adult bit is the solarium. x |

The low water pressure must be something recent as it was fine in March and each other time we have been. Maybe something to do with the new refurb.
Try emailing reception as usually a manager reads them we found it works much better than complaints to reception staff. |

Maintenance have looked into the pressure and have said there’s nothing they can do, we have been offered an alternative room in another block right in front of the entertainment stage, I have no doubt when they did the refurbishment and added lots of other water features that they didn’t bother upgrading the water supply. We will vote with our feet next time we come to GC |

The water pressure was abysmal. Fancy rain shower head, but not even enough pressure to have drips coming from all the nozzles.
The refurb means the rooms are smart, always clean, the location is amazing, the price was good for all-incusive, but SO MANY little things just added up on the negative.
I known that’s how negative reviews start, that one or 2 things bother you, and then you just find fault everywhere. But it just seemed like there was cost-saving going on at every corner. |

"Does the terrace that allows naked sun bathing have a pool ?
Does it have a bar ?
And does it have toilets ?"
There is a bar in the lobby close to the lifts. I used to fill up water bottles (not just with water) and take them up.
There is no pool, but there is a toilet |

"Beer, wine, soft drinks good
Food decent, cleanliness good.
Coffee, cocktails, crap.
Solarium run down but ok, but there’s no bar so you have a trip of five floors to get one, bring a drinks carrier.
Water pressure is crap.
We knew it was a family hotel but we thought they would also cater for adults only, the only adult bit is the solarium. x
We will vote with our feet next time we come to GC
We stayed there just before Covid and it was awful - it doesn’t seem as though it has improved since. We have just stayed at the Dunas Suites and Villas in Maspalomas. Booked last minute and wasn’t sure what to expect but it was in another league compared to the Caterina and far cheaper! They don’t advertise a naked terrace but GP bathed naked every day in a discreet area only a few metres from the pool. |

It would appear that the champion of honest opinion, be it good or bad isn't such a fan of honesty when the subject of criticism is his own opinion.

General post, not directed at anyone...
When you know nothing, it's usually better to say nothing. EG, if you weren't there, then you couldn't possibly know something. Here's another, passive aggressive posts, about things that haven't actually been said, only highlight one's insecurities |
