We are in PDI 4-11 Oct and looking for restaraunt recommendations. Our preference is not too ‘touristy’, local cuisine with good tapas being our fave. R speaks fluent Spanish so we are happy to venture out to find hidden local gems.

The best Tapas we have had is The rustico restaurant Maspalomas.
It’s a hidden gem near La mirage. Quite small so you do usually have to book but it was really beautiful food and will be going again next time.
Also La Cabañita park restaurant at Montaña la data is excellent. Roughly about €7 each way from PDI in a taxi. Really good food and beautiful setting. Can usually just walk in.
I’d highly recommend both.

We'd second El Rustico. There's Wapa Tapa in the Jumbo which is reservations only as well.
If you prefer something with a more authentic Spanish vibe, then we like La Tapita Los Jose's in San Jose. |

Not tapas, but Restaurante los Porches near the Cita serves lovely food.
For somewhere with white tablecloths, if that's important to you, try Chez Luigi in the Sandia centre. It's right above 2x2 if you want to have a look at that too. |

Sorry, brain dead... La Tapita Los Jose's is in San Fernando, which is walking distance from PDI.
Just avoid the sea front restaurants in Maspalomas and Meloneros which are overpriced and pretty awful for service generally. |

Quite fond of Chez Luigi, great portions (not that we're big eaters), plus the added bonus of the free bottles of spirits on the table for after your meal. |

Indeed, The Teriyaki banquet at Sakura is excellent - especially if you go as a group"
Looked at Sakura when we were on PDI in June but never found anyone to go with. Glad to hear it's good we love sushi. |

If you wish for a choice of quality restaurants, including tapas where many many of the locals choose to eat, head for Calle Partera Leonorita in San Bartolome. I’m particular Taberna El Picoteo. It’s street side and nothing to look at but all of the restaurants here are rammed with locals. Only a few euros from Yumbo. It’s a must, you’ll be going back every night!!
Local 15, Parque Sur III, Calle Partera Leonorita, s/n, 35100 San Bartolomé De Tirajana, Canarias, Spain, Las Palmas, Spain |

Just to avoid confusion, San Bartolome is the name of the county where PDI, Maspalomas etc are located, and also of a small village up in the hills. The Calle Partera Leonorita I think is meant here (and where one of the restaurants we recommend is located) is in San Fernando in the country of San Bartolome - what feels like the northern part of PDI, but is totally different in character.
Hope that helps!

Lots of good choices suggested. Some alternatives are Mundo and Papi’s Grill pretty much next door to each other.
Misbah the British owned Indian on the Melenores front. El Asador steak house and grill and Motivos tapas just down from La Tapitas in San Fernando x |

Chez Luigi - our `go to` restaurant. In there most evenings. Also El Poncho - on the roundabout just down from Cita - so not far to walk to the bars and clubs afterwards. |

Los Porches is one of our favourites, lots of locals go there which is always a good indication ...... Always impressed that staff recognise us even after covid break. Never had a bad meal x |

We always get to Rustico a couple of times when we're there. Superb place and the owners are really friendly. |

Haha the Saturday night kebab house for PDI. Fortunately, it’s on our stagger home this year round.
Will certainly be having my go to leche leche largo and churros outbound. And heavens knows what on the return. |

La Tapita Los Jose’s (///snack.splurge.overheard) has been a worthy mention a few times. Also Ibericos J. Cruz (///lining.sternest.commutes).
Miss Asia (next door to Ibericos J. Cruz) is a good Chinese and Asia House for Chinese all you can eat (not buffet, but cooked to order and brought to your table).
But if you head to Calle Partera Leonorita, where these restaurants are situated, then you’re just slightly outside the main tourist areas, and will find a few gems where locals eat and have to opportunity to hone those Spanish skills.
There’s a place called Tango Tapas not far from Gran Chaparral, which is pretty good as well. Nice surroundings, friendly owner (makes an awesome crème brûlée), great staff and lovely sangria. |

"Can anyone recommend a good Indian ?"
We’ve yet to find one. We’ve had two meh experiences in Gran Canaria and the best Indian(s) in the canaries to date I’ve found in Tenerife.
However, the pick of the bunch we’ve heard in PDI is Gorkha Palace (///overthrown.exerting.torchlight). We haven’t been here so can only go on other people’s comments.
We might have one last stab at finding one and give this a try next month. Otherwise, we’re giving up on finding a decent Indian in GC. |

People have been critical of the restaurants on the front but we've found them to be lovely, if a bit busy. There's a lovely restaurant right by the Faro and the Chinese/Thai a bit further along was fabulous. |

Yes they are pricey and can be busy but they food is generally very good. I've tried most of them over the years as have yet to have a bad meal. Had poor service on occasions but always top food. |

"We like El Poncho Asador just near Cita Cente "
Been meaning to go for years. It’s on our to do list this time round. Heard good things about it.
Usually go to Marco Polo inside the Cita. Fantastic meat. Their chateaubriand is to die for and great VFM. |

TBF yes we did see that once or twice, but we tipped well anyway as the food was still good, and it was gratefully received by the waiters. From then on we got very good service, and lots of free drinks on our last day. |

We stumbled upon a Thai restaurant called SA•WAD•DEE and had an absolutely amazing lunch there. It's on the roof of the shopping centre beside the Faro bus station in maspalomas |

Totally concur. Can’t beat a good food and restaurant thread.
Our lovely Cuban friends on the island recommended a Cuban restaurant not too far from PDI. About 12 miles in a place called Vacindario (circa half way between PDI and the airport. When driving on the GC1 motorway, you may have seen a large Pepe Chiringos building on the right. It’s behind here).
I believe it is Cubano Hatuey (///howling.snaps.perusal), which is a buffet style of authentic Cuban cuisine.
Hoping to get there this time and share our thoughts. Would be lovely to hear if anyone has visited. |

Well if you're willing to drive...
There's always the "restaurant in a cave" whatever it's called.
And for a real expedition, Los Almacicos in Veneguera. Definitely off the beaten track that one... |
