"Any news on Hut 6?
Looking to visit with my g/f early Nov but if the dunes and Hut 6 are both closed it’s a potential game changer for us"
We were there a few weeks ago and not having the sunbeds and kiosk open didn't ruin our holiday but did miss the vibe and the ability to chat to others before bumping into them later in clubs and bars.
Hopefully, business as usual soon.
Must be a local thing as sunbeds out in Mogan. |

"Thanks for the update
During the day we are usually by the Hut or the dunes, especially if it’s windy - We even enjoyed the hike through the dunes from PDI
"
Only tried the hike from the white RUI hotel to kiosk 4/6 once.
The hot sand getting into my flip flops.
I started doing that funny little foot to foot dance like those desert dune lizards you see on TV Nature programmes.
Hot, hot, hot, hot.
Prefer to park up near the camels and walk along the beach from the bottom of the road.
Some nice little bars / cafes on the beach after a day in the sun.
Only been home a week and seems like a few months. |

Ha ha! I know what you mean about the hot sand and the hike but my better half has this crazy notion that the hike each day will burn off the extra calories from the holiday booze! |

I happen to be a particular fan of hot sand and the desert lizard dance you speak of.
Without sounding like the complete degenerate pervert (which according to the judge, I am), hot sand does for breasts that which Shakira does for hips.
But in seriousness. There is a wooden walkway that goes from the livesavers lookout point down to the wet sand. Once on the wet sand take you can take your flip flops off and walk on the wet sand. Your toes will thank you
Once at Hut 6 the eye candy helps you forget that your feet are on fire

Whilst we didn’t kick back every day, we did enjoy taking a walk and hanging out at the kiosk.
What we did last year was walk up to the lighthouse and drank at the Irish Bar or had a beer, burger and complementary bruschetta at Pepes.
Not a replacement of the vibe, but a pleasant alternative. |

I was at #4 (now 6) today and there are no sunbeds or anything else. Lots of people are on the beach though. You just need to bring everything with you.
I have been exploring the dunes and talking to some of the regulars there. The dunes action IS still happening. The regulars say it is unpatroled after 2pm, and that appears to be true. There are very, very few couples though. Lots of men doing their thing, but basically zero couples. I saw far more action on the beach than in the dunes. |

Thanks for the update - No hut 6 and restrictions in the dunes is a deal breaker for us
We are going to hold on until Feb/March and hope things improve |

I thought the dunes was an erosion thing, and nothing to do with COVID, so unlikely to change in the near future? |

It’s claimed it’s for environmental reasons - erosion of the dunes and damage to wildlife but I first visited 40 years ago and it doesn’t look any different - I think it’s just the authorities trying to squeeze more freedoms to be honest and using lockdown as a period to implement them
Hopefully common sense will prevail and the dunes will be open fully again |

"People shouldn't leave litter behind etc.
But one of the reasons people visit PDI is to visit the Dunes "
Agreed the litter is a problem but to be fair most of it is usually left in a few identifiable heaps
Maybe a similar amount of manpower used to patrol the dunes could instead be used to collect the rubbish from those refuse points?
The tourist industry is already on its knees, you would think the authorities in GC would be doing its best to get it back on its feet and have the chiringuitos and the dunes open |

The importance of the dunes as a world heritage site trumps the needs of a few tourists and meerkats fortunately.
The damage done was a way beyond a few scraps of toilet roll, wet wipes and condom wrappers.
It's still possible to enjoy the beautiful dunes and walk along the marked paths usually only meeting a few other people on the walk from the Rui to the lighthouse or the camel Safari |

Are any of the Fab members who live in GC picking up any rumours about the sunbeds and kiosks.
It looks from the webcams that the island is really busy again, and with this peak period leading up to Christmas, you would have thought that now was the time to get the beach facilities up and running again ? |

With no sun beds then we’ll not return anytime soon, we love the beach but we travel light and don’t want to be lugging beach gear in the baking sun. We want to pitch up near a bar and grab a couple of beds and a brollie. I really hope the sun beds are back soon! |

Same here, kiosk 4/6 is a big part of our GC holiday vibe.

I see people’s frustrations. We love our beach walk and then a cider at kiosk so gutted to miss out two years on the bounce.
I get the frustration of lugging equipment to the beach but if we were sun worshippers, we’d probably get those bed/loungers you fill with the air from the wind. As they fold up nicely in a bag and look quite light, to complement our little light tent. Then a cool box with beers.
I’m sure you could get a travel parasol as well, but that’s probably the best alternative for now.
I’m not sure if there are any other threads debating this, but what throws me out is I believe other resorts/beaches do have their loungers out. Different councils I understand will have different decisions, but not exactly sure why and why PDI isn’t following suit. |

Haven't seen any updates, but apparently it is something to do with money/taxes they owe to the government.. |

"Sorry to sound stupid but is it not possible to go and play in the dunes, are they being patrolled?"
They are being patrolled and you can get a fine of up 600€ just for walking through them. But some people risk it for a biscuit. Up to them. |

From what I understand from a couple of sources in PDI, paperwork hadn’t been signed and submitted. Administrative error, as other resorts do have sun beds and parasols available for use.
Whether this is the case, or otherwise, it’s a lot of missed revenue for the supplier, and a missed service for the consumer sadly. |

"i think they also owe over 1000000 euros to the council , "
I have heard there’s a debt too which is also viable considering the pandemic, but let’s just hope they’re back up sooner rather than later. |
