GC and possible green list.

If GC is added to the green list this week, would it be worth risking a week to PDI for some fun in the sun on 12th June? Or will it take weeks to fill up with other lifestyle couples? West is the current status of clubs like Secrets, etc - closed still? Perhaps someone currently their might be in a position to offer some reliable guestimate and indicate if there’s much action currently, or not at all. The alternative is a vanilla holiday elsewhere, we only go to GC for one thing  Thanks in advance. |

Only some clubs are open but the hours are restricted as there is still a midnight closure for hospitality establishments in place.
There is a rumour of a 2am opening but this isn't expected until July.

There are fears that Portugal could be moved down to the amber travel list
The Labour Party is calling for the amber list to be scrapped altogether

We have trips booked for October and November/December....but with the option to cancel/postpone, at no cost. I think we will be able to travel on both occasions, purely down to the vaccination rates within UK. Everyone that wants vaccinated, should have had both doses by then. It's only the Antivax idiots that could screw things up.....but hey, Wakefield/Coleman/Cahill and Co appreciate the millions of £/€ you make them  |

See you in 3 and a bit weeks. Extra tests, whatever. 10 days at home, working from home naked in the garden, whatever.
If I have to book more flights via Dortmund or Zurich, whatever.
FCO advice still doesn't exclude Canaries. We have both worked our arses off for the last 16 months, all over the world. Still coming to GC come hell or high water. |

If you can afford to quarantine for 10 days then fair enough, the vast majority of people won’t be able to do that. |

The stats for GC must already be very close to what would justify green status. Three more weeks of a good trend is needed.
The other thing is, that over the next couple of weeks it should become more clear as to whether the increase in infection rates is leading to a significant increase in hospitalisations.
If both indicators look good, then a data driven decision would have to be green.
Hopefully, it wont be influenced by all the negative scaremongerers and loud mouth politicians who would have us all locked in chains for ever. |

They want us spending ££££ in the UK and not abroad!
Our numbers are low and falling everyday.
24,000 vaccines were administered yesterday as well. It was a shock we didn't 'go Green' today but in 3 more weeks who knows....? |

We will, but I don’t see very many travelling. The costs involved with testing, insurance and post holiday isolation are significant and how many working people are going to be able to get an extra ten days holiday for post isolation or want to isolate for ten days? |

I voiced the very same thing on here 6 weeks ago that the government wanted us to spend £££’s and not €€€’s.........the problem is there’s no bloody accommodation to be had, everywhere is already full, vastly overpriced or is not worth consideration.
Anyway we personally won’t get too disheartened just yet, our 4 weeks at La Mirage in August is still a possibility. |

How the Test to Release scheme works
If you have been in a country or territory on the amber list in the 10 days before you arrive in England you must quarantine for 10 days on arrival.
Under the Test to Release scheme you can choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test. If the result is negative, you can end your quarantine.
You cannot take your Test to Release test until you have been in England for 5 full days.
The scheme is voluntary and applies to those quarantining in England only.
If you do not want to opt into the Test to Release scheme, you will need to quarantine for 10 days.
You cannot take part in the scheme if you have been in or through a country or territory on the red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England. |

Test to release is not a new thing that’s just been brought in
We’ve used it twice including Xmas from GC
It just means you have only 5 days to isolate instead of 10 so those that have limited holiday days at work have to incorporate this when booking |

Yep, we used it at Christmas for PDI and it was fine.
We're booked to go to PDI again in August and will use Test to Release again if GC is still on the Amber list.

Doubled vaxed, so no test needed to fly out. I can add day 5 test for another £40 to end quarantine sooner if required.
Cost of testing has come down quite a lot in comparison to what we were paying earlier this year.
It also looks like bars, clubs etc will be allowed to open till 2am from June 18th. I've just read this in The Canarian, should anybody wish to check.

We have done same re tests - much cheaper than we thought - also seen the opening until 2am from 18th - fantastic as we arrive on 19th for 2 weeks... we are very happy people - lol |

U need to check with your air company what rules they have and all what you need .. but it changing all the time .. air lingus from Dublin at the moment not accepting ,, covid vaccine passport ,, ..Ryanair from dublin regected pcr test for passengers ( my friends ) who had test done in Northern ireland .. they had to have pcr test done in South of ireland.. just check all information on your air company website before you fly .. |

U need to check with your air company what rules they have and all what you need .. but it changing all the time .. air lingus from Dublin at the moment not accepting ,, covid vaccine passport ,, ..Ryanair from dublin regected pcr test for passengers ( my friends ) who had test done in Northern ireland .. they had to have pcr test done in South of ireland.. just check all information on your air company website before you fly .. "

U need to check with your air company what rules they have and all what you need .. but it changing all the time .. air lingus from Dublin at the moment not accepting ,, covid vaccine passport ,, ..Ryanair from dublin regected pcr test for passengers ( my friends ) who had test done in Northern ireland .. they had to have pcr test done in South of ireland.. just check all information on your air company website before you fly ..

It's very confusing? We're flying from Edinburgh with Ryanair on the 19th. Just trying to make sure I've done everything right so we can definitely fly. I know the rules are slightly different flying from here so if anyone is flying from Scotland and can help, that would be great.
So... He's had both vaccines but I haven't had any yet so, just PCR for me going out I think and proof of his vaccines. Spanish health form for both. I think we both need tests for coming home? Day 2 and 8 tests booked on government website and passenger locator form for return flight. Have I missed anything? Thanks guys. K x |

U need to check with your air company what rules they have and all what you need .. but it changing all the time .. air lingus from Dublin at the moment not accepting ,, covid vaccine passport ,, ..Ryanair from dublin regected pcr test for passengers ( my friends ) who had test done in Northern ireland .. they had to have pcr test done in South of ireland.. just check all information on your air company website before you fly ..

It's very confusing? We're flying from Edinburgh with Ryanair on the 19th. Just trying to make sure I've done everything right so we can definitely fly. I know the rules are slightly different flying from here so if anyone is flying from Scotland and can help, that would be great.
So... He's had both vaccines but I haven't had any yet so, just PCR for me going out I think and proof of his vaccines. Spanish health form for both. I think we both need tests for coming home? Just to put that into perspective the IA7 for GC stands at 23.85. The IA7 for Tenerife is 68.81.
So we just have one portion of the islands where the police clearly aren't enforcing Covid-19 measures.
In theory it's easily fixed. Just apply the regulations that have been so effective in this part of the archipelago elsewhere. |

When you have the PCR test in Spain 72 hours before you come home, if it is positive I presume you have to stay in Spain for ten days ? But then it is likely a subsequent test will also be positive ? My mother in law kept testing positive 8 weeks after she had Covid. How do you get home ? |

Just an update as im here now in pdi.
You don't need a pcr to fly back to the uk. An antigen is allowed and sufficient as long as it meets the % requirements. And they do. At a cost of around €25 where yiu get the certificate too.
Bars are now open until 2am including clubs.
Masks on the street are not required from Friday 25th june.. but still carry as shops still require them.
Sun is hot beach is sandy and the sea is wet...

Santa Cruz now has a higher infection rate than any city in Spain.
Tenerife has an infection rate 8 times higher than Gran Canaria.
Don't expect this to come down because the authorities have responded by increasing restrictions in bars etc. despite the fact that not one single infection has originated from these venues. It seems that the authorities are just imposing measures which are easiest to enforce rather than addressing cause. Pity that Covid-19 doesn't respond to PR exercises |

Just this
El Hierro is the first island to reach 70% of the target population vaccinated against Covid with at least one dose, and are on target to achieve herd immunity in mid-July.
The IA7 for El Hierro is 0.00.
Overall vaccinations are progressing at about 25 000 to 35 000 per day which means it won't be long before all the Islands have at least 70% first dose. As most doses seem to be Pfizer, it is logical to assime that 21 days later this will translate to 70% of both doses. So we're looking at end of July for this target to be reached (ahead of mid August as was previously anticipated).
So as much as it sounds like doom and gloom there is light at the end of the tunnel.

A point raised by CW is that the Canary Islands have actually dodged a bullet here....
Had the Canaries been given the green light 3 weeks ago, the current spike in Tenerife would have almost undoubtedly been attributed to an increase in international tourism.
Also we would have gone green to amber which means that there would have been cancellations which would have further undermined tourism confidence.
As N&S have correctly pointed out, everything hinges on the vaccination rollout. We want to go green and stay green. |
