As of today, Friday 23rd April 2021, we are still in Level 3 restrictions but the curfew is now 23.00-06.00. It's only an hour but it's something
Level 3 Restrictions are:
- curfew from 23.00-06.00
- no more than 4 people to a table in a bar/restaurant
- bars and restaurants with an open terrace and/or an outside area are allowed to open
- masks must be worn unless eating, drinking or smoking
- hand gel is provided in shops and bars and is to be used when entering
- maintain social distance where possible, at least 2m between you and other people who you do not live it

Some really good news IA7 is now at 58.82. to think it was getting close to 80 only a few weeks ago. GC is back just under 50 at 49.21.
Vaccine is starting to go at a good speed at long last. The only downside to the stats today is Fuerteventura having a over all + number. All the other islands seen a good step down in over all infections. |

"can you sunbathe in the dunes again now or are they still patrolled?
Dunes are still out of bounds and patrolled.
Is there talk of the Dunes opening up again or is it a permanent closure? "
The dunes have always been a natural and protected space. You could "only" walk on the marked paths, although it is true that the police looked the other way and they have never fined people. We will wait and see when there are more and more tourists walking among the dunes if the police will fine them or just tell them that it is not possible to walk. Normally the police tend to be more benevolent with tourists than with locals |

I read that the canaries and balerics are trying to get the spanish government to accept the lateral flow test and others. Mainly will depend on what uk gov decide. But boris did say he was hoping for the same. And the transport minister is trying to make the pcr test a lot cheaper down to around £30. But we ll have to see on the 17th may |

They have been trying for a year now. But that will change on the 10th when state of alarm ends. |

Zurich. NOT London. |
If flying Ryanair PCR tests are only £60 anyway.
I'm sure the other holiday airlines will be offering them at a reduced rate soon.
Hopefully the Canaries can make the green list, so we won't need to quarantine and take 2 tests on the return to the UK. |

If all keeps goimg the way it currently is think we are all looking toward thing being very much like the old normal. Maybe people might where masks if they are felling off and can t stay at home. But also think firms will insist on people workikg from home if they are ill but able to work |

-6 people max at tables in bars and restaurants
-Inside dining 75% capacity outside 50% capacity
-Max 2 people at the bar

Well the numbers keep dropping here.
IA7 stands at 45.27- that’s now a week it’s been under 50 per 100,000
Also the IA14 is at 97.84 - first time it’s been under 100 in months and months.
Also 641,797 vaccines have been administered. 185,000 have had both jabs.
Just need Tenerife‘s numbers to come down and things will look really good! |

Maybe so, but if things are getting better out here almost everyday. Tourists are definitely starting to come back. We can see that everyday in the bar. Yes not busy. But 100x better than it’s been in 18 months.
The Canary Islands now has the 4th lowest incidence rate over 14 days (IA14) in the whole of Spain. The region with the lowest is Valencia with 46.57, followed by the Balearic Islands with 63.02, in third is Murcia with 67.18, and the Canary Islands with 95.89 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The two highest are Madrid with an IA14 of 397.76 and the Basque Country, in the north of Spain where Bilbao is, with an IA14 of 515.36. |

Great news, just a shame that our incompetent government have left it so late to announce this before the 17th May deadline. I've already rearranged my trip last week but could have gone on 17th May as originally planned |

From what we having been reading in the press, a lot of things depend on the establishment of a Health Passport system which looks to only be ready in June.
That's the bad news. The good news is that once holiday travel resumes, the Canaries look to be on the green list. Meaning no quarantine on return.
More good news is that all indications are that the "passport" system will accept:
1) Complete course of Vaccinations
2) PCR test showing negative
3) Proof of recovery from Covid-19
As to expenses, TUI has announced it will do a Covid-19 test for £20. So the costs are coming down.
BA is reported to have escalated it's prices to expected "green list" regions, so whilst I can see why many would have a wait and see attitude, it's one that might prove to be expensive. |

BA are not flying direct to GC till November, they have restricted their flights to GC to November through to April. Damned annoying, it was nice having a carrier with a business class option. I have several BA vouchers now. |

"Is the free Covid insurance still available in the Canaries? I understand it started last August for 12 months and is for package holidays in registered accommodation."
It started in August, about the 10th if memory serves, and the policy with AXA is valid currently for 12 months, obviously this is open to renewal. It is valid for all travellers staying in registered holiday accommodation, not just package. |

We have quite a few Germans and Dutch nationals here in PDI at the moment. So don't think it's an issue at all. It's a question of flights really.
There is a lot of confusion about when UK visitors will be allowed back in to the Canaries.
"This means that you are now allowed to come to the Canary Islands for non-essential reasons, whether for a holiday, to see family or friends, or visit your own property from May 17th. Because the islands are on the amber list, you will need to have a test before you leave the UK, have 10 days quarantine at home on your return, and two further tests before you can come out of isolation on day 2 and day 8"

Lots and lots of things are happening today with central government and the Uk government. Formal request have been put in.
Yes no one is saying that Uk tourism is going to boom straight away. But hotel staff are going back to work Sunday and Monday. We have a lot of locals come into the bar and they have told him last night to get back to work. Not sure when the hotels are opening as greenfield has been closed from March 2020, so they must need to do some before they can reopen.

What's ridiculous to me is a government that tells you to go out and get vaccinated because it stops you spreading Covid-19 but then makes you quarantine when you return from a country which has stricter controls than your own. |

Well just got back and seen the news. As we all know state of alarm ends today, local government asked Supreme Court to keep the same laws as it has now, masks & curfews. It was refused. So they need to go to central Supreme Court and try again.
Most of us are happy to keep masks for indoor shopping. But not for walking outside in 30c heat just now! Then 50c in July and august |

Your sense of ridiculousness is trumped by EU rules. Had we still been in, we would not be having this conversation.
We are not just out.. but out, out and that means we get treated no differently to any other non-EU country. No favours, no special condition because we are Goddam British - just out. |

What has this got to do with the UK being in or out of the EU - my comment was purely about why the Canaries would allow visitors from a country which has 20 times the infection rate of their own |

"Ángel Víctor Torres announces that the Governing Council has agreed to maintain the current restrictions in Canarias before the decision of the Government of Spain to end the state of alarm: "We take this agreement because we want to continue with the decrease in the number of infections" .
The President of the Canary Islands details that the Governing Council agreement will be published this Friday, May 7, in the BOC for its entry into force on Saturday and will be sent to the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands for ratification.
Thanks for the update.
Is there please an official web link we can read what the restrictions are in particular in regards to right to entry in the Canary Islands from the UK ? I m meant to fly there on 29th May from the UK with an Eu passport and really confused if we will be allowed to entry or not .

I don’t understand how Germans are being allowed to travel to GC when they currently have nearly 20,000 infections ( 10 times that in the UK) Crazy.
Inter-EU travel is very different to travel into the EU from an external country. Things changed on January 01st.
I understand that but if you are serious about having a summer season why allow tourists from a country which has such a high level of infection now? Just seems ridiculous to me
Your sense of ridiculousness is trumped by EU rules. Had we still been in, we would not be having this conversation.
We are not just out.. but out, out and that means we get treated no differently to any other non-EU country. No favours, no special condition because we are Goddam British - just out.
What has this got to do with the UK being in or out of the EU - my comment was purely about why the Canaries would allow visitors from a country which has 20 times the infection rate of their own"
Quite. Unless being within the EU means there's less of a transmission risk. lol |

It’s a good question, but wasn’t this the case last year?
When we went to GC last year, late October/November, it was about 23, way, way lower than the UK and states across Europe. I believe that they were boasting the lowest rates across Europe.
The rates were for the most part contributed from the north of the island and practically zero in the south.
My understanding is that it wasn’t tourism that was increasing those rates but local behaviour.
I know that it significantly increased after our visit and don’t know the answer, so call on the local knowledge, but was it tourism or local behaviour that increased the spike?
Our experience last year was that Gran Canaria controlled the intake of tourists and handled the pandemic very well to protect the locals/tourists and economy as best as possible (granted numbers were way lower than expected). We certainly felt at ease.
I would assume that in a way, it was a form of a dry run that would prepare them better for a busier period, even if this was unplanned.
But bouncing back to the comments of countries with higher rates than the UK, albeit all higher than GC, I’m watching with interest to any comments that agree/disagree on the political side. |

Because the rules are different between inter-EU travel and travel into the EU.
From the EU website...
"A temporary restriction on non-essential travel to the EU is currently in place from many non-EU countries.
The European Commission presented a proposal for a Council Recommendation setting out a progressive approach to lifting the travel restriction for a list of non-EU countries agreed by Member States, on the basis of a set of principles and objective criteria including
the health situation
the ability to apply containment measures during travel
reciprocity considerations

Dead on, the spike was due to family gatherings. We have seen a small spike in Lanzarote just now. Again it was a family gathering, nothing to to with tourism.
3 weeks ago we have 4500 live cases, that number is 2850 odd now. Looks like (if nothing really spikes) we will have close to 2500 by the end of this week. Also the reason why the Uk government could not put any of the islands on a green list was down to main land Spain. They never gave the okay to listing both sets of islands on their own. This has now been done on Saturday. So we need to wait and see what happens next.
We are now sitting on under 40 cases per 100,000 IA7 and 85 for IA14. Balearic’s are now on 59 IA14 and doing outstanding.
Our cases will also have the odd up’s from time to time. I really don’t think we will see any big jumps to the likes we have seen in the past. But over all it will start to come down day by day. I did say many times we would see a big spike at Easter and we did. Also 730,000 vaccines have been done here. It’s really starting to get a bit of drive behind it.
What the Uk government will do no one knows, but by the time of the next review I’m hopeful we will see us with a IA14 of 45/60. Will that be okay for the Uk, who knows. Also by the next review we should see close to 1,000,000 vaccines and hopefully 40% of the islands fully vaccinated. |

"Maybe having a rethink, 40% is a bit to hopeful. 25/30% fully vaccinated would be a better aim. "
Great feedback. I’m sure last year the magic IA number was 50 and below. So it sounds like GC is in good shape.
With UK tourists vaccinated, a good amount of the island vaccinated, local measures in place to control the virus, and hopefully other states doing their bit, summer might just come early.
I did note the UK government did their bit to pack out the green list. I’m just not sure whether I fancy a week or two in St Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. It hasn’t even got a bloody sports bar, let alone a naughty club! |

Well went secrets on Saturday night and the place was packed! Definitely starting to get back like the old days.
Today the IA7 stands at 38.93. Yes you’re correct last year the the Uk government said IA7 of 50 and under was the number for the green list. If I remember it was 46 something last year. Live cases are now at 2729. Hopefully we get close to that 2500 number. Then close to 2000 cases by the next review. I really can’t remember when it was under 3000 the last time. (It was over a year ago)
Also Hotel bookings must be looking good, we had an other local told to come into work tonight to start working on getting the place ready for the summer. I’ve said 30% of 2019 was the aim for this summer. That’s starting to look like it’s it can happen. We know august bookings are about 60% of 2019. Also an other 13,000 jabs yesterday. That was a lower day than normal.

Lol the Guinness is chilling waiting on you!!
In my opinion the next review 75% likely to be on the green list (it was 70% yesterday till I read the news this morning) and 99% for the in mid June.

I see Germany have lifted Covid quarantine rules for the vaccinated and those that have recovered from Covid or tested negative. Still have to quarantine, if arriving from an at risk country, for at least 5 days. |

"What news ?"
Well yesterday meeting from the Spanish tourism minister. They are voting on lifting the ban on the Uk on travel. Also looks like you will not need a test to come to Spain from the Uk. Now if that happens (they want to vote on it this week, most likely Thursday’s general meeting) you will only need a test to fly back to the Uk. You can get that here for €15 |

Have you heard anything about the test needed to access tourist accommodation? This was put in place just in the Canaries I believe? One would hope if they get rid of the test for entry, the test for accommodation would also be defunct? |

It was one and the same, you should of had a PCR test when coming. This was for all of Spain. But the islands gave some Lea way. So if you never had one you could access the accommodation, then get a PCR. I know you stay at Venues. I’m not sure what they will do. Now the reason I say that. We could stay at hotels and not need a test as we live here. But when we went to Venus for the day, they still made us to a test! |

Thankyou! I'll ping them closer to the time, it's 51 days away yet (yep... Counting ) so things are likely to have changed. X |

"BA is reported to have escalated it's prices to expected "green list" regions, so whilst I can see why many would have a wait and see attitude, it's one that might prove to be expensive.
BA are not flying direct to GC till November, they have restricted their flights to GC to November through to April. Damned annoying, it was nice having a carrier with a business class option. I have several BA vouchers now. "
