Going to GC in October. Do i need an international driving licence now or is my UK one acceptable

Think you mean an International Drivers Permit (IDP). There are two types, but ask for the version that covers Spain. You will need a passport photo as well. Green Cards are for insurance, and are not issued by the Post Office.

If I was you I'd take a IDP as someone suggested, £5 from UK post offices because in the Canaries

it's now illegal to drive with a UK license unless unaccompanied with a IDP and. expats are being spot checked on roundabouts here right now with a 200e on the spot fine

Not sure where people get there information. I can assure you. That you can drive on a Uk license.

You do not need an international driving permit (IDP) to visit and drive in the EU, Switzerland, Iceland or Liechtenstein.

Ok I stand corrected and my earlier reply was more aimed at expats living in the EU and still driving on their UK license, but it does leave me wondering why the UK is issuing ID Permits for use in Spain and France.
