I see on here some of you have had your easyJet flights cancelled for March
I myself have just had an email from easyJet saying they have moved the time of my flight on Saturday March 27 th they have brought it forward by 4 hours .
I then have the normal 4options , accept and do nothing , move the flight airport etc to a different time date , voucher or money refund.
Those of you who live out there what do you recommend ,
Don’t want to pay for a hotel in the uk on return or for tests going in and out .
What do you regular travelers recommend

Have you not heard there is a pandemic?
I see it as been pure selfish, the only way to stop this pandemic is to stay at home. Why would anybody even consider travelling and travelling abroad too
That's the problem with people like this...unbelievable |

Here is the breakdown of latest infections in Canaries:
"By source in which they occurred, 59 of the outbreaks are of family origin, 49 from social gatherings, 17 at work, 9 in education centres, two in hospitals, 1 in a nursing home, 1 in a gym, and another in a nursery school."
0 from holidaymakers.
So if people want to have rants about stopping the spread of the virus, it's very commendable, we all want to stop it. But people having huge raves, massive unmasked street protests etc should carefully condider why they have the world's third highest death rate per capita, otherwise they just come across as bitter and jealous that they aren't getting out of the mess they have created any time soon. |

OP we have not wanted to travel in this pandemic but a combination of work commitments, emigration and business interests have seen us back and forth 3 times since October. No we didn't get Covid-19, in fact air travel is statistically one of the safest ways to get around at. When there's no one for 5 rows around you, and everyone has a recent PCR test you can appreciate this.
Our single most valuable bit of advice is book one way trips. We now book a one way and then guage the situation for the return closer to the time. By booking a reurn journey you double your chances of your flight being affected.
We have been using BA. Two reasons. They have never cancelled on us. If you are the only person on the plane they still fly. Also if you go on the app there is usually a day where the prices go off a cliff edge and you can pick up a steal. |

It has everything to do with me...Dont you understand there is a social virus that is spread by been social?
and the only way to stop it spreading is stay at home?
Some people think if the government say ok your allowed to go out or go on holiday they can not get their shoes on fast enough and fuck everybody else.
Why do you honestly think we are in this shit? Why do you think we have the highest death rate?
It's because the government has not been strict enough and people just carrying on as nothing is happening.
Then you get idiots saying I ain't bothered if I catch it, but I'm sure other people are bothered about catching it from you?
So why would anybody book a flight to a destination 1500 miles away and come into contact with all the people on the journey?
You may not be breaking the law by the time your holiday but dont you gave a conscience?
Do you honestly think the Spanish person really wants a group of infected Brits turning up to infect their small community?
This virus will go on and on if we dont all isolate no matter what he government say...

All I'm trying to say is if everybody got their heads down and did minimal contacts we could beat this virus.
I'd rather do that than have years of mask wearing and lockdowns.
That what us going to happen, years and years of this shit.
I lost both my parents to covid and a brother in law in the space of a month.
They were careful, very careful.
But it seems someone wasnt and that why it concerns me.

I think it's very noble to want to prevent the spread of the virus.
But to prevent the spread of the virus you need to find the main causes of the virus and start there. This is called Pareto analysis and has been a major problem solving tool for many years.
Would you say that on days when there have been 30 to 50 thousand new cases in the UK these were because of people travelling overseas?
The only reason why people put so much emphasis on travel is because they can't. It's got nothing to do with the spread of the disease and everything to do with the grean eyed monster - Jealousy.
If you would like to contain this spread of the virus how about going over to the virus forum and convincing those in the UK who feel they are too entitled to follow the rules to just dp what they are told and this will end. God knows I've been doing it for over a year now.

I used to give on holiday 6 times a year. Since the start of the pandemic I've been nowhere.
Anything social spreads the virus. Bars, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, holidays the safest place is in your own home.
It's not rocket science meet 0 people today 0 chance of getting or spreading.
Travel to airport, customs, flight, customs, travel to resort, eating out at resort etc etc a lot more chance ?
I'm not jealous of anybody going abroad I just have a little more respect to my fellow humans |

"Will do my rant over....sorry"
I really think your heart is in tue right place but think you need to research the number of actual transmissions that are taking place because of air travel.
When you are one of 6 people on a 300 seater plane then are you more at risk than when you're crammed onto local public transport. How many of those people next to you had a PCR test in the last 48 hours?
Coming from GC back to the UK we were horrified. People not wearing masks, not social distancing etc. We can see why the numbers in UK are so high, be amazed if they weren't. It has nothing to do with international travel. |

BA just cancelled my May flights, there are other carriers, but I definitely prefer BA business class to any of the other options.
As to travel, some of us have to fly for work, we test, we isolate we work we test again. No contact from any carriers over the last year re contagion, yet alerted twice to possible contagion from the local supermarket. Tested negative.

Hotel quarantine currently is Africa, South America and Portugal. Portugal has just stopped flights from Brazil so may be removed from this list at the next review. You will definitely need to test to fly, going out and coming back though and in all likelihood quarantine at home on return. |

"There will be no travel from the U.K. for holidays this March probably April as well "
This is correct and precisely what was said in Parliament yesterday by Priti Patel at the dispatch box. 'Holiday flights are not essential travel and are deemed illegal until things change'. |

When two phones running the app are near each other, they will make contact through Bluetooth. If they are close for a long enough time, and one of the two owners later shares a positive coronavirus test via the app, then the other will receive an alert. As the only place I had left the house to visit on both occasions was the supermarket...
Both times my tests were negative. |

Do you think that living in Spain is like being on the planet Zog - we get BBC news, ITV news, Sky news and many more and they are not giving the same 'facts'- many of the comments by MP's etc are their views and like you they are not all scientific advisers.
If we were told the facts we could then make our own minds up but there are not many facts out their as Covid is a 'new' virus and even the specialists agree that they still do not know enough about Covid to have a full picture |

Police will not stop holidaymakers from leaving the country
Police will not stop holidaymakers from leaving the country under current laws, the chair of the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) has suggested. On Wednesday, Home Secretary Priti Patel said going on holiday was "not a valid reason" to leave home during the current lockdown and that the police presence at airports and ports would be increased.
But there are fears some people will take a fine of £200 and still try and leave the country for holidays, particularly if they have booked expensive flights and accommodation in advance.
On Thursday, NPCC chair Martin Hewitt said police will not automatically stop travellers choosing to continue their journeys under current rules, the Independent reports.
They will issue fines in the airport to people without a valid excuse to be there, but Mr Hewitt said "the process after that is being worked through".
"Whether they are then barred from travelling is not a police issue, that's a borders issue," Mr Hewitt added.
We ain’t scaremongering this is FACT why all the nastys
From us - it isn't a fact - the NPCC - suggested this might happen. If it is illegal to fly out of the UK the Government could close the airports to passengers - why are they not doing that |

Cool down and don't jump in with both feet without looking at the bigger picture. I very much doubt that travel will be up and running by then but consider the following:
*A person who has antibodies
*Received the jab
*Has a negative swab prior to travel
Will be alot safer traveller than people who travelled last summer when restrictions were lifted.
It's upto the the Spanish and British governments to say what is is an acceptable level of risk to accept in order to allow travel between the two countries. This virus is here to stay in one genetic make up or another. If we don't get the balance right certain countries will be plunged into poverty who rely on tourism.

Obviously this is very raw for you losing many loved one's which must be heart breaking.
However there will be tough decisions that will need to be made unfortunately. This virus will constantly mutate as all viruses do. We can't have most of the country furloughed forever, the economy needs to get moving again otherwise it will be our children that pick up the burden for generations, never mind what it's doing to their education and mental wellbeing. The only way is to get immunised and the vulnerable shield completely until they the receive the full course.

The scientist on there did calculations regarding the world wide spread of a virus from the point if ONE. there is also the film Contaigen, made in 2011, which shows a very similar account of what we are going through now.
And planes and movement of people only make a bad situation worse, but we know that. Afterall its not planes that spread the virus, its people in the planes. |

And planes and movement of people only make a bad situation worse, but we know that. Afterall its not planes that spread the virus, its people in the planes."
I agree that a world travel ban would have been amazing in January 2020. If you care to go back to forums of that time I was the idiot advocating this. I was deemed an evil scaremongerer who was trying to create panic for some evil agenda.
Now that the virus has spread around the world do you think air travel is our number one concern? |

Any idea how many infections these flights were responsible for? |

Think you watch the films. There is a very good scientist in the UK called Dr Chris Smith, you may wish to direct questions like that towards him. He is on radio 5 live a lot, and Thursday night after 10 pm he does a phone in, you can ask him |

In Gran Canaria specifically, the occupants of these planes are tourists who visit the South of the Island. Surely we can quantify the extent by which the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana exceeds the number of infections in the municipality of Las Palmas? |

"This is NOT about one place.. its a world wide pandemic.. think you should watch the films i suggested...will put things into perspective "
That's right it's world wide. So when an American president holds huge public rallies, which are thought to be responsible for 30 000 infections and 700 deaths, and that president advocates voting in person rather than a postal vote.... that's fine. In fact 70 million Americans think he's a stand up guy.
I could write a ten page reply covering everything from rave parties to people fleeing tier 4 London which would describe why the infection rate is what it is....
But people would still be pinning the same tail on the same donkey without one shred of evidence.

Above is a thread from the summer when sentiment in the UK was vastly different from what it is now. People were suggesting that those who spread Covid-19 were heroes. Your thoughts on that? |
