Venus Star - March
Jump to: Newest in thread
We’re supposed to be at Venus from 15th March. A rebook from October, then January. 99% certain we won’t be going ?? so long as we can sometime in the future that’s fine - it could be worse at least we’re safe and healthy unlike some poor souls. |

Due to have been at La Mirage for 2 weeks mid March but due to all restrictions on flying etc. it is not going to happen.
A fair chance people won't be allowed in to GC the way things are. |

As per usual our flights are with TUI who we expect they will send us a official confirmation of cancellation 72 hours before the flight then hold onto our money for as long as possible.
AND we still get email offers for bargain holidays for 2021 which have very little chance of happening ??
At least we didn’t book a scheduled flight and the possibility of not getting any refund. |

We will be very very choosy who we book with in future as a result of the actions of some airlines/operators.
BA have been fantastic. Jet 2 refunded quickly. Easy Jet a little difficult but ok. Ryan air diabolical.
We tend to book flights separately then Airbnb or hotel.
We were meant to be there in March but that is looking increasingly unlikely. In all honesty, we probably don’t want to go at the moment; it just wouldn’t be the same.

Our analysis is all these Corona restrictions work in 4-6 week cycles. At the moment restricted flights out of the UK is welcomed but as the numbers seem to be dropping and vaccines are being ramped up the travel restrictions will be lifted even according to Boris when a review is due 22 February. So we have to hope that come mid March leading to Easter coupled with warmer weather the fatalities in the numbers will favour some normalisation to resume. |

Oh no... your farm is way more important and valuable. We can only hope and adjust accordingly. Its a balancing act between safety and well-being. Fact is there is a term now called "Covid Fatigue" and people can only take so much cooped up.
Also other EU Countries are going through their reviews from 7th February and GC is waiting for tourists from everywhere cos that is their survival income right there... |

There are flights to GC... we are booked on EasyJet. The issue is justification to fly at checkin according to Boris yesterday |

Don't hold your breath.
According to Boris, Schools will open in March, clothing shops in April, and Pubs/restaurants in May.
Somehow I don't see foreign travel jumping the queue on those.
We actually really need to get to Spain soon (jobs to do on houses Etc.) While theoretically we can from Germany, in practise it is almost impossible.

I think there is an over-reaction here. As of this moment due to lockdown if you can provide a valid reason to travel for example you need to work on your home why not? Holiday is a no no - but come March when the lifting begins why not? I said earlier these things always get reviewed and changed every 6 weeks... the economy and people's well being cannot be overshadowed PROVIDED the numbers go down which is what we are already beginning to see... |

We don't actually have a travel ban here although the advice is not to.
To get into Spain we need a 72 hour test which we can arrange. Problem is no (or hardly any) flights.
I checked the arrivals for Alicante today and there were only five in total. One from Brussels and the other four were internal.
No-one is flying there from Germany or anywhere else at the moment. |

When we made this statement 5 weeks ago most people were skeptical... now you will agree it was not just wishful thinking simply facts and analysis. People who have legitimate reasons to travel other than for vacation/holiday cannot be prevented by any authority provided there are planes flying and on checking there are flights going to GC from all over...you may only be discouraged ?? but not prevented... we plan to be there very soon! |

We are back from a truly remarkable time away to GC /Venus.... yes it was difficult getting there as the UK and Spanish authorities did not make it easy for travellers and it is definitely not recommended at this time and you would be turned back if you go for vacation reasons. Brits are missed as the clubs, bars, restaurants, taxis, car rentals and hotels indicated. Also Venus had less than 20% occupancy and Le Mirage was closed.
We however made the very best of the weather, scenery and the few swinger events/friendship fun available ?? |

Intrigued to know how you managed to circumvent (1) the Uk travel restrictions on leaving ? (2) the Spanish ban on Uk citizens entering ? We love Venus and glad to hear they are at least open and doing some business, who were the other nationalities staying there?

Yes, same questions from me!
How did you get round the rules described above when most people have not been able to leave the UK or fly to GC?

We stayed at Venus for 3 weeks in January and there were nationals from various countries, mostly French and Italian, no German or Brit's, it was about 20% full but we still had a great time |

1. We went as business associates for business reasons which was legitimate so no circumventing occurred and able to fly out of the UK.
2. In Spain business documents were presented and I believe the assumption was everyone flying into GC are tourists. We did our business as well as had lots of fun doing it
A comment here - the laws in the UK and Spain were not firmed enough (at the time) through the respective parliaments etc and if some thought as to other reasons for traveling other than for a vacation is legitimately presented then you can travel.
During our stay we met and made great new friends from France, Germany, Italy, Estonia and Sweden. There was a Brit couple permanently resident in Spain as well... |

So you potentially risked spreading the virus further through 5/6 countries....because an anomaly in, or more truthfully, your intentional abuse of the regulations, meant you could. How very responsible of you |

Except it's still illegal to travel on holiday from the UK, only now there's a £5000 fine for doing so |
