It seems to bother a lot of people when general discussion occurs on dedicated Spain threads. If you were to have a chat about GC in the Lounge people would be asking to move it to the Spain area.
So here it is. A general Canaries news, views and ideas and some good old fashioned general banter welcome. |

Well I've just annoyed my whole family because Alex wants to go to Gran Canaria next week on a holiday already booked, paid for and Covid test passed.
Instead of having Christmas Dinner with them for about 3 hours on Christmas day as I will now have to self isolate over Christmas. My sister, her husband, nephew and my father don't know about Alex and don't understand why I'm so keen (desperate) to go. |

Come to Gran Canaria!!! It's a different world. Clubs are open. People are relaxed. The weather is back to being fantastic. Your family will forgive you eventually |

Hola! yes what is the weather like. We always have a good English breakfast at coco bar/restaurant, at Annexo 2. Unfortunately, they look closed, but they have another restaurant 50 yards along. They are a lovely family and a large family, two of the sons are policemen. x |

Weather is good. But the wind is fierce today.
Lots of my usual drinking venues seem to be closed although they may be open tonight with it being the start of the weekend.
Was hardly anyone in yumbo .
So far no one has asked to see my covid test certificate. The airport staff scanned my Spanish qr code but that was it. The hotel left the key in a key box and there is no reception open. |

They have a every right to be angry. Another poster on another thread, has said the UK have reduced the quarantine period to 10 days, so anyone returning over the weekend will still be out and about at Christmas. |

Excellent news! I hope you have a pleasant flight with no dramas and enjoy a lovely holiday here in paradise.
I don't know if Windsor Gardens (Yumbo) will be be open in these times but they're usually open from 11am. Last time we were there they really appreciated our patronage and the service was excellent. |

We have learned to do everything last minute and only book our flights one way. |

Depends on your carrier, easyJet are only accepting PCR. I would suggest checking your carriers Twitter feed for the most up to date info. |

When we flew to GC in November, the PCR test was not for entry but to provide your accommodation provider with negative proof and taken within 72 hours of arrival. |

Easyjet are very strict. They check your PCR test certificate and QR code while you are in the queue for check-in. At least they do in Bristol.
A poor lady behind me had her two young kids and her mother with her, paid £400 for all the tests via a postal /courier service. They didn't arrive back in time and they didn't get on the plane.
Your checked again at the departure gate, again a couple were refused to board the plane.
When you land, the Spanish looked at both and scanned the code and finally the hotel wanted a copy.
Its hard work but definitely worth it as the weather looks gorgeous today and I'm having a ball. |

Same at Gatwick on Friday - checked at baggage drop and then checkpoint at the gate. Asked specifically for PCR results. |

TUI have sent us a link to get antigen test for £49 and do it over video link, result in 15 mins and fit to fly cert within 30mins. So TUI are accepting Antigen for flight. |

easyJet from their Twitter feed less than an hour ago states PCR only. Check with your airline what they will accept.
"Hi there, you need to follow Spain national rules and not Canary Island rules. Spain national rules advises that only a negative PCR test is accepted for entry into the country, https://t.co/QHA4NDkHEl. - Thanks, Kay" |

Just had an update from fco
Summary
Still current at:
15 December 2020
Updated:
14 December 2020
Latest update:
Updated information on Covid-19 testing requirements (see 'Entry requirements' page)
The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to:
Spain, including the Balearic Islands but excluding the Canary Islands, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.
If you are returning to the UK from the Canary Islands on or after 4am on 12 December, you will need to self-isolate on your return. You must still self-isolate if returning to the UK from any other part of Spain. Some exemptions apply. Check the latest guidance for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Travel is subject to entry restrictions
On arrival, travellers entering Spain from the UK will not be required to self-isolate. However, from 23 November, all passengers (excluding children under the age of 6 years old) travelling to Spanish airports and ports from ‘risk’ countries, as determined by the European Centre for Disease Prevention & Control are required to present a negative PCR swab test taken within no more than 72 hours prior to arrival, in order to enter the country.
From 10 December, a TMA (Transcription-Mediated Amplification) swab test or a LAMP (Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification) test are also accepted by Spanish authorities, again taken within no more than 72 hours prior to arrival. While TMA and LAMP tests are not currently widely available in the UK, you should refer to testing facilities directly for information on the types of tests available to you, prior to booking an appointment. The UK is currently on the ‘risk’ countries list and passengers arriving from the UK are therefore subject to this requirement.
You should not use the NHS testing service to get a test in order to facilitate your travel to another country. You should arrange to take a private test and should confirm with the testing facility the type of tests available prior to booking an appointment.
You will also be subject to the additional three requirements at the point of entry:
it is mandatory for all passengers travelling by air or sea to Spain to fill out and sign an online Health Control Form 48 hours prior to travel, providing the Spanish Ministry of Health with:
contact information;
details of any known history of exposure to COVID-19; and
confirmation that you are able to provide evidence (electronically or hardcopy) that you have undertaken a PCR, TMA or LAMP test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival and have tested negative for COVID-19.
You can do this on the Spain Travel Health website or downloadable app. On completion, you will be issued a personal and non-transferable QR code which you must show (electronically or hardcopy) at airport health controls on arrival.
temperature check
undergo a visual health assessment
Overland travellers to Spain are exempt from the above mentioned entry requirements and are therefore not currently required to present a PCR or TMA test, or Health Control Form on entry by road or rail.
Negative COVID-19 antigen tests may be accepted by health authorities on arrival to the Canary Islands. See here for information from Canary Island Tourism Authority and check any further entry requirements with your travel provider prior to travel. Regulated tourist accommodation providers on the Canary Islands require all travellers aged 6 years and over, to present a negative COVID-19 test on check-in, taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival. The same test used on entry to the Canary Islands may be used, providing you check-in within 72 hours of the test being taken.
See Entry requirements for more information before you plan to travel.

Just saw this on Hello Canary news, part of statement from Ministry of tourism;
I am not sure about the tests:
What test documentation is required?
You need to have diagnostic test for active SARS-COV-2 infection with a negative result. The tests that are allowed are PCR (RT-PCR for COVID-19), and antigen tests that detect SARS-COV-2 antigens with an accuracy of 97% and a sensitivity of over 80% as defined in their supporting documentation.
The test must come with a printed or digital certificate that contains the following information: name, surnames and ID number of the person tested, name of the health organisation or authority that does the test, contact details of the medical centre, brand and health authorisation of the test, date and time of the test, and the test result. In the case of antigen tests, the certificate must include the accuracy and sensitivity of the test. It is preferable if the test certificate is in English or Spanish.
So now am totally confused!! |

Does HM Government site tell you what the airline's rules are? How many bags you can take etc? It's an awful long way to swim here after an antigen test! |

Changing the subject slightly.
The effort to get here is a pain but once you're here it's definitely worth it It's just so relaxed, chilling and fun. So much so that I've just extended my stay for another 3 days. Not going home until Tuesday 22nd now |

"Boris Johnson announcement...London and some areas in South East, who were in tier 3 to move to tier 4..no travel abroad if you are in tier 4..."
We are booked to go out to PDI on 10th Jan for 3 weeks.
Doubt travel restrictions will lifted by then.
Even if they are, EU haven't said if once we are out of the Brexit transition period on 1st Jan that they will make an exception of the UK and let us visit with the UK's high covid rates.
So doubt we will be going |

That is another hurdle to jump, as with such high rates of transmission in UK, very doubtful that the EU will allow UK citizens entry after 1st January. Just wish they would say it now so we all know where we are, and not let it drag on like Bojo and crew have done over everything!
We are due to fly out on 9TH Jan, but as we are in Tier 4 can't travel anyway but at least if EU ban UK citizens easier to get refund from Jet2 than have to go through our insurance. |
