It seems to bother a lot of people when general discussion occurs on dedicated Spain threads. If you were to have a chat about GC in the Lounge people would be asking to move it to the Spain area.

So here it is. A general Canaries news, views and ideas and some good old fashioned general banter welcome.

Hello so what is the weather like today, hasn't it been a bit rainy?

So here it is. I'll start.

I was at Comeback bar on Saturday and went down to Fun4All an hour early.

Comeback now opens at 7pm and Fun4All all an hour early 9pm. The smaller attendance had the effect of making things more intimate and we had one of our best nights there.

The early night syndrome has a positive spinoff in that you are up earlier, catch hotel breakfast and get to the beach earlier.

Speaking of the beach they sell portable deck chairs that flatten completely and whilst they aren't as good as a proper lounger they keep you off the sand!

"Hello so what is the weather like today, hasn't it been a bit rainy?"

According to the locals they haven't seen rain like this in four years. We've been struggling because we don't have a dryer and rely on sunshine every day to dry our washing. In fact hanging out washing seems to bring clouds rolling in from nowhere!

I think the earlier closing isn't a bad thing, we would often be rolling home at 3 in the morning, the hotel was locked at that time, so you had to ring the bell to get in I think they knew where we'd been from my dishevelled look!

Another piece of local gossip is that the tour operators have refused to bring tourists to the island while there are immigrants in the hotels.

Some people are saying that there is a law which prevents them being there after December 31. Hotels still housing illegal immigrants will be fined.

We're waiting to see what happens...

I guess you can understand that, that's probably why people are having their flights cancelled. I hope they get it sorted for everyone's benefit...

My understanding is they have also changed some regulations that allow the authorities to send some of them back where they came from. Hopefully that becomes a deterrent.

I honestly feel for those who genuinely come from wartorn countries, but there are others who aren't who are milking the situation.

This was us in September, we had 2 weeks of relatively early nights, well, in comparison to the 3-4am usually expected, and we loved it. We made the most of our days, enjoying lazy breakfasts and a few long lazy lunches. We had a fab time.

We took the time to visit the market in Teror. What a breathtaking part of the island! So green. It's a beautiful town, super relaxed and excellent cheap food. Loved it and recommend it to anyone with a hire car, although the bus system is good too.

"Is it true the weather in Gran Canaries is around 12 degrees max a day?"

Right now it's 17 degrees. This has the locals out in heavy jackets, polar neck Jerseys etc. We've seen more rain in the last week than the last 3 years combined.

We are still walking around in vest and baggy shorts. We don't even have a jacket between us over here.

The Boletin Official of the Canary Islands (BOC) number BOC-S-2020-249, has today published all the new measures in relation to the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in Tenerife. Yesterday, the Government of the Canary Islands decided to establish a curfew for a week, reduce the groups to a maximum of four people, prohibit drinks at the bars of premises, and suspend all non-professional sports activities for two weeks due to the rebound in cases on the island.

For details you can go to:

Our friend out there sent us a video of the rain whilst he was at work, we spoke again 2 hours later and he said it was still torrential rain. Again like you said, not regular thing out there. He did say it was warm though lol, not helpful when drying washing though. Hope it is improving for you x

What's the score in the clubs and bars such as comeback and secrets? Can me and the OH play or is it socialising only?

"What's the score in the clubs and bars such as comeback and secrets? Can me and the OH play or is it socialising only? "

Clubs which have doors with access control tend to have more rules broken in terms of social distancing. One strange law is you can't dance. So if the music gets switched off you need to quickly find a seat. I played that game as a kid.

To be fair I haven't seen a lot of play. It's happening at Secrets, Venus and La Mirage, but on a much smaller scale than before Covid-19.

Venus and LaMirage are holiday accommodation for couples only or as a couple you can pay for a day visit.

Secrets is a club that couple's and singles can attend depending on the night. As with all clubs they have couples only nights.

My understanding is that Venus and La Mirage don't let in single males but most of the clubs will charge single males an entry fee.

The point about needing to be buzzed in is that by the time the police have been let in people have stopped dancing and sat down.

I am all for COVID-19 regulations and rules but this thing about dancing is just silly. Most of the infections in GC are Las Palmas and are largely work place infections and home celebrations. They broke down the source of outbreaks the other day and none of them were from tourists.

With the new testing requirements, tourists are probably some of the safest people on the island.

It's not hard to understand really. No dancing is allowed. It's against the rules, even in this country nightclubs are still closed.

Dancing whilst keeping a two metre distance around you from other people outside your family bubble would be near impossible in places like fun4all.

Clubs which have doors with access control tend to have more rules broken in terms of social distancing. One strange law is you can't dance.

To be fair I haven't seen a lot of play. It's happening at Secrets, Venus and La Mirage, but on a much smaller scale than before Covid-19.

Nice info! Which ones have the access control entry? Also I thought all the clubs you mentioned are couples only?

My understanding is that Venus and La Mirage don't let in single males but most of the clubs will charge single males an entry fee.

The point about needing to be buzzed in is that by the time the police have been let in people have stopped dancing and sat down.

I am all for COVID-19 regulations and rules but this thing about dancing is just silly. Most of the infections in GC are Las Palmas and are largely work place infections and home celebrations. They broke down the source of outbreaks the other day and none of them were from tourists.

With the new testing requirements, tourists are probably some of the safest people on the island.

I really don't understand the no dancing thing..

I'm not so illiterate that I didn't read a thread I commented on.

It was more your comment about you not understanding the no dancing rule. It's a rule what's not to understand.

Those dancing are breaking the rules. The club's allowing it are breaking the rules and opening themselves up to fines. In struggling times that seems ludicrous. But that is a discussion for the virus forum and not specifically the Spanish one.

But yes I will try to have a nice day and hope to continue to be safe and you too.

I found myself tapping my feet rhythmically to a tune the other day. I hope this lessens the viral load as opposed to a full on headbanging session...

Actually there is no rule about going to a club.

Please explain how 20 people can work together in a office and it's fine but the moment you put music on the virus spreads? Are there any peer reviewed scientific journals that correlate dancing to the spread of the virus vs standing motionless?

I find myself chuckling at the exchange’s on here, we all have a duty of care for ourselves and others, and if people choose to be completely reckless then they will probably be in similar company, I for one will not stop living my life, I refuse to just exist, we try to take reasonable care to not contract or spread the virus, but if we could get to GC with ease, we wouldn’t hesitate, even though just getting on a plane is not in some people’s minds reasonable behaviour,

Hold on a minute, everyone is going off topic, I was talking about popcorn not cooked meals or general snacks, you people just love to mess up a thread don't you.

Keep to the subject, we are at the cinema here watching a comedy so it has to be popcorn right cause when you burst out with laughter and spit out your food, popcorn is far less dangerous than a spicy chilli dog or whatever floats your boat.

Of course I'm assuming you don't swallow it first, what do you think sensual?

Hold on a minute, everyone is going off topic, I was talking about popcorn not cooked meals or general snacks, you people just love to mess up a thread don't you.

Keep to the subject, we are at the cinema here watching a comedy so it has to be popcorn right cause when you burst out with laughter and spit out your food, popcorn is far less dangerous than a spicy chilli dog or whatever floats your boat.

Of course I'm assuming you don't swallow it first, what do you think sensual?

Burnley'ish

Right let’s recap.......

We’ve reached 101 posts on the thread so here it is.

We started quite well with the OP leading the way with a semi sensible post to get things going. Let’s be honest it was just drivel.....but it was a start.

On we went to a bit of idle chit chat about the weather......how fucking interesting. Still it managed to get a few people’s post count up so it served a purpose.

Next it’s about the virtues of how splendid Gran Canaria is outside the concrete shit hole that Playa del Ingles is. Yes, someone discovered that they do have grass and trees. No shit Sherlock.

Back on to the weather and it got exciting as we were all treated to the fact that the rain had stopped and they could dry their washing. Anyone else fall asleep at this point?

A few posts about Covid (it had to appear at some point) by the UK’s swinging ambassadors currently laying up in GC sorting out buying a bar and things began to take shape. A post pecking order had begun. Someone was not going to be beaten even if it meant just saying ‘thanks’ or dropping in a complete nonsensical emoji. Remember post counts are everything.

Then the fun began.....dancing. Exception was taken, and a brief but amusing spat began, a few emojis and the odd tongue in cheek remarks regarding having a good day and things calmed (sadly).

Now, I think that sums things up in a nutshell, not bad for “General Canaries News” (ffs I’m not even sure if that’s the title I’ve got that bored) and we’ve learned nothing. I personally think there’s scope for another kick off as we’ve still got about 75 posts available. If not we still haven’t mentioned mini golf, the lack of drugs due to the Kasbah being closed or where you can get the best full English.

Actually on the webcam watching the mini golf at Yumbo is a good indication of how busy and normal the place is, well as good as this thread is useful!

After many complaints Face masks are compulsory

You may wear gimp masks by permission of the management

All we ask is that everybody is sensible in these difficult times

The whole idea of this thread was that anything goes. So there can not be no off topic.

Indeed we are fortunate here in GC where the infection rate is the low double digits to be lecturered on controlling a virus from people where infection rates are in the tripple digits.

One glaring difference is that anyone in Fun4All is either a local with very very low infection rates or a holidaymaker who has had to pass a Covid-19 test.

When the UK had the infection rates we have now you were all having raves, infection parties and eating out to help out and Boris was encouraging mingling.

You were on the other threads moaning about chit chat and now here you are posting on a thread dedicated to chit chat.

.... moaning about chit chat nonetheless...

Apart from moaning about what other people have posted you've contributed nothing of value yourself.

You must be very disappointed when you get to the hookup bars in PDI and there's all that chit chat instead of people presenting their dissertations...

"Right let’s recap.......

Thank you for this. You've saved me from having to read any of the above. I salute you. "

God me too..saves me reading back!

"

It's been a nice chit chat though...and I've got salted popcorn waiting

Travellers arriving in the UK from the Spanish Canary Islands will have to quarantine from 4am on Saturday - as the government announces a new 'test to release' service will start in England next Tuesday.

Yep you only have to self isolate for 5 days providing your happy to pay for another private test and that’s negative if course!

It's actually a good idea to quarantine. Not to protect the locals from you. To protect you from the locals

When all the tourists came over in October the infection rate dropped right down to 16.

Statistically only 44 cases have ever been linked to air travel and most of those were before masks. That's a one in 27 million chance.

So using English logic then, people who fly to the Canaries from the UK must test before they leave the UK otherwise they are irresponsibly putting the Canarians at risk.

But

If you are flying from the Canaries to the UK you need to have your test done on arrival....

5 days plus the time to get your results back so 7 days at least

Why can you get Covid-19 on a plane coming from the Canaries but not get Covid-19 going to the Canaries?

Because everyone on the plane going to the Canaries has a negative test result ?

From a statistical point of view the likelihood of someone in the UK catching Covid-19 from someone who just got off a plane is 41 310 times less likely than from someone already in the UK.

"Because everyone on the plane going to the Canaries has a negative test result ?"

But it doesn't work going back the other way?

How does a virus know which direction the plane is flying in.

If the plane has technical difficulties and has to turn around will everyone on the plane suddenly be at risk because the plane is flying in a different direction.

Ok... seriously though. Either test on arrival is better or test

on departure is better. But it can't simultaneously be both and neither.

Because you could have caught it on your last day and it can take upto 5 days before you test positive, that’s why the uk want you to isolate for 5 days then take the test.
