"Anyone stayed at the HL suite hotel? Stayed at Abora Catarina last visit and hotel was good but no bar or pool on the sundeck. "
Stayed there for a week beginning of November. Very very nice hotel. Sundeck and pool is amazing. Food is also very good. Definitely recommend it |

"Easy jet have cancelled our flight from Manchester 10th March "
They’ve just cancelled our return flight on the 6th March, flight out on the 27th Feb still on schedule. We knew it was going to be cancelled so had already decided to stay longer and booked return flights with jet2 on the 9th March instead. Will accept refund from EasyJet now |

jet2 cancelled our flight out on 7th march (sunday). They offered us the 6th march instead so we took it.
The only reason we went for the sunday flight in the first place was that it was half the price of the saturday flight.
The pessimist in me says that will be our only bit of luck. |

"What do you think our chances are of getting to GC in March? Doesn't look good at the moment. "
Listening to Boris yesterday, the chances are slim...let's see what happens with the vaccines being rolled out, they will make a difference, but how long will that take...hopefully we can get away soon. |

"Our flight on 8th March has been cancelled by Ryanair. You know shit is bad when they are cancelling flights that far in advance. "
It looks like we will be under these restrictions until mid February and beyond, the sooner they get the vaccinations done the better for us all |

Just been speaking to a friend who is a local councillor in Majorca. They have been told that it is very unlikely that any holiday traffic will be allowed until at earliest 1st July, and even that will require a massive acceleration of the Spanish vaccination programme. Apparently they aren’t that interested in how many in the UK have been vaccinated/ if you have been vaccinated. It all depends on the progress in Spain. |

Fingers crossed that the information is wrong... Can the Canaries last until then without tourism? |

"Our flights with tui in March still haven't been cancelled really not sure what to make of it at the moment :-/"
I think you can assume that they are hanging on to your money as long as they can! Even the big companies like Tui are struggling now and they will be using everything they can to survive. |

Spain has extended travel restrictions from the UK until 2nd of March. Boo hiss boo! BUT.....the numbers here are going down all the time which is good.
Just a little longer to wait and hopefully travel will be allowed again and we can welcome all our lovely friends here again |

"Have they started the vaccine yet"
Over in GC? Yeah. Vulnerable and front line workers I believe. I don't know the exact numbers and don't want to post a link as it might not be safe to do so, but yes the vaccine has been rolled out over here |

Bit peed off after hearing what Grant Shapps said on BBC this morning
He said it’s not only how many in the UK have been vaccinated but also how other countries vaccinations are going before he thinks travel will be allowed again
So our travel plans could be in the hands of other countries |

Gran Canaria isn't a massive island so it shouldn't take too long I imagine. As I said I don't know the actual numbers and am not sure where to find a reliable link to post on here.
I don't know about other places, eg Greece, Turkey etc etc..... |

So there is shortage of vaccines just now for the EU. They have said they should have the agreed amount by the end of March.
As for the island. Just yesterday Torries said we can have everyone over the age of 16 vaccinated in 3 months and 21 days. So the race is on to get the vaccine out and we can roll out 30,000 aday across all islands |

85,412 vaccinated
29,047 with 2 doses vacations
85% of the top 2 groups have been vaccinated.
The plan will see everyone over the age of 16 to have both vaccines by the mid summer. |

I had a chat with one of the stall owners at the Lighthouse today. He said that whereas people used to haggle with him over prices, they are more inclined to say keep the change. There really is a spirit here that can't be broken. It makes me very positive and happy to see people pulling together in the face of this pandemic. Really looking forward to the summer. |

GC is teetering on the edge of going down to level 2 again. We will find out tomorrow. If it doesn't happen this review it will probably happen on the next one. |

Hope you are right! But the numbers are still very challenging. The population is over 2 million so 85,000 is a pretty small dent in it . |

What you are saying is absolutely correct.
But.
It assumes linear progression. The limiting factor has been the availability of the vaccine. We started off with only Pfizer and were squeezing an extra shot out of every vial. When we got the Moderna there was a step increase. We are expecting to have the AstraZeneca vaccine too and that will mean another step increase.
Whem taking demographics one has to take the under 16 out of that equation too.
I'm also under the impression that the mystical figure of 70% is a general figure for all population densities. I would imagine that adding to a population with already vaccinated people (tourists) increases herd immunity rather than decreasing it. But I'm no scientist. I just believe there comes a point when new infections are so low and deaths so infrequent that the economy starts to move into the fore. Don't think that will be a step change but rather a gradual and highly regulated process.
Just my thoughts... |
