Quarantine Quandry

I'm trying to wrap my head around this...

The current infection rate in the Canaries is 59.6/100 000.

The current infection rate in the UK is 70.7/100 000.

But people returning from the Canaries need to quarantine so they don't infect people...?

I had no idea that was the figure. Quite a big difference from mainland spain where it is 300 per 100.000

How about all the people who haven't been to the Canaries quarantine and the rest of go about our day tobday? Just kidding.

Seriously can our economy afford to quarantine people who could otherwise be working for no reason.

The Canary Islands aren't even close to Spain. They have the same sovereignty but the virus doesn't really go by governments. It's absurd.

From the Canarian Weekly:

"The archipelago has managed to reduce the rate of infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days to 59.6, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health"

I've been kind to the UK because those figures are from a 14 day rolling average. A 7 day would be far worse.

Just got back yesterday. When we arrived in pdi had to fill an online form 48hrs before arrival, at the airport temp checked QR scanned.

On arrival in the uk fco have a form more question then the Spanish one. At border control no temp taken and they had to see the complete form on your phone as they dont have the QR scanners yet. Says it all

Yesterday's figures from the Canary Islands say the infection rate has dropped to 54/100 000.

I'm also told by friends on the island that the actual figures are lower (below 50). Apparently there have been many false positives which will disappear from the stats in the next update.

If the figures stay below 50 then the quarantine restrictions will be lifted in many European countries and we might see a busy ending to October.

Quarantine from PDI going back to the UK is like standing outside in the rain because there's a drip in the ceiling.

If you live in Nottingham with 689 cases per 100 000 but have returned from Gran Canaria with 42 cases per 100 000, you will need to quarantine.

Your neighbour is being protected from you spreading covid even though they are 16.5 times more likely to have it than you.

Exactly our thinking ... long weekend off next week, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle under local restrictions and cases rising, canaries dirt cheap flights, cases dropping and Covid insurance for £30 ... it’s a no brainier

That’s fine if you can afford the 14 day quarantine on your return, we can’t

Quarantine going to change to 5-8 days if you pay for testing on return. Going to be announced by Grant Schapp. Landing then 2 days later test. 2days because of asymptomatic people. That's why no test on landing

Spain has now approved new.protocols for travel to and from the Canary Islands. Anyone coming from an area with high Covid levels.will need.to take a test within 48 hours of travelling. Anyone needing a test before they go hope can have it for free here.

These protocols wil be compatible with the ones the EU is expected to announce next week to standardise travel protocols across Europe.

Will the UK be included?

There is hope on the horizon. It looks like current decisions are being made on an economic basis rather than epidemiology.

Most of the infections are in Las Palmas and after being there today I can see why.

There's hardly any infections here in PDI.
